After owning and using several of Irina Meich's Metal Clay books, I was really looking forward to "Metal Clay rings." The book is beautifully organized and the well done photographs make following directions very easy. It was very disappointing, to find that she does not address how to make a practical durable ring. There was no information on what stones will fire well with metal clay. There is no information about what temperatures to fire different CZ to preserve the original color. The directions are simplistic and lacking specifics. A novice might enjoy this book. After working for several years in metal clay, I was very disappointed in the lack of depth in this book. Many of the rings Meich has made are impressive in the jewelery box, but not very wearable on the finger.

I have several books on metal clay and most have at least some instruction on making rings, but rings aren't the focus. It's nice to find a book that is just devoted to rings. This book contains 18 projects divided into easy, intermediate and challenging levels. The instructions are clear and accompanied by many full-color photographs so you can easily see what the steps are. You can see all the rings on the front cover. There are many more photos inside of variations to ALL of these rings.

Not enough fingers or Toes

Do you remember playing with that lump of clay as a child; kneading it and then rolling it into a ball? I would pull off a small amount, roll it on a hard surface to create a snake and then form it into a ring. If it was well done, I would keep if, if not so well done, I would give it to my younger sister.

I marvel at the various styles of rings presented in this book by Irina Miech, published by Kalmbach Publishing. All were constructed using silver metal clay PMC3 which comes in lump, syringe, paste, and sheet.

The rings in "Metal Clay Rings" are more than snakes of clay. Their thickness is measured and then the various projects show step by step instructions for finished rings that have been fashioned by various techniques. Some have been rolled and trimmed, others incised or stamped, while others illustrate such techniques as molding. Many are enhanced with CZ and lab-grown stones and dichroic glass.

There is no guess work involved. It was almost like deja vu. Hot or cold weather didn't deter me. All I needed was my small lump of clay. What my sister wouldn't give for one of these delightful metal clay rings.

I loved this book. Lots of pictures and instructions. It was nice to have a whole book dedicated to rink making. One person stated that there aren't instructions on what stones fire well with the PMC in the Kiln. I understand that feeling well, not knowing everything about this industry. But I have to say that you can find out what stones can handle the heat in the kiln by googling it. It's not the way you'd like to find that info when you are making these from the book, but you can find the information. Don't let that keep you from getting this book. You can also set the stones after firing takes place by adding imbeddables first and setting it afterwards.

I've been making fabricated jewelry for many years and just started working with PMC. This book is interesting, has good layout features and is one of the best how-to books that I have seen regarding PMC. I highly recommend this book

Excellent instructions and photos, wide variety of styles and clear instructions and information. I would buy another book by Irina, and I would buy a ton of her designs as well. Great book, exactly what I was looking for! <3

Content of the book is excellent, however the book is falling apart. Just received the book yesterday, and while reading it last night a page fell out, not happy with that.
