Look but don't touch!,

This review is from: Metal Clay Rings: Silver Jewelry Inspired by Nature (Paperback)
After owning and using several of Irina Meich's Metal Clay books, I was really looking forward to "Metal Clay rings." The book is beautifully organized and the well done photographs make following directions very easy. It was very disappointing, to find that she does not address how to make a practical durable ring. There was no information on what stones will fire well with metal clay. There is no information about what temperatures to fire different CZ to preserve the original color. The directions are simplistic and lacking specifics. A novice might enjoy this book. After working for several years in metal clay, I was very disappointed in the lack of depth in this book. Many of the rings Meich has made are impressive in the jewelery box, but not very wearable on the finger.

Inspiring,
This review is from: Metal Clay Rings: Silver Jewelry Inspired by Nature (Paperback)
I have several books on metal clay and most have at least some instruction on making rings, but rings aren't the focus. It's nice to find a book that is just devoted to rings. This book contains 18 projects divided into easy, intermediate and challenging levels. The instructions are clear and accompanied by many full-color photographs so you can easily see what the steps are. You can see all the rings on the front cover. There are many more photos inside of variations to ALL of these rings.

I've been making fabricated jewelry for many years and just started working with PMC. This book is interesting, has good layout features and is one of the best how-to books that I have seen regarding PMC. I highly recommend this book

Metal Clay Rings tells how to make your own metal clay rings with no metalsmithing skills needed. Metal clay begins moist and malleable and works like clay, so you can form and fire the clay to create silver rings. Beginners to users familiar with metal clay will appreciate 18 original designs and ideas for tools and supplies - and especially the clear, close-up color 'how to' photos covering each step of the process.
