I love to make models and this was my first metal model. First look, I thought I could go at it with ease but after awhile I found out it is not for beginners. If you choose to go with these thin, and I mean thin means of material then you have to be patience and delicate in using and making this model. If you don't pay attention to the instructions closely you can make a simple looking model more complicated than it should be. Do not work on a piece too much because it can break apart. Not for beginners! Caution also if you do not like small miniatures because this is the size of the finish model. Other than that, this is a small complicated model if you have patience and attention to detail, you will enjoy putting this thing together.

The Boeing 747 is one of the easier models to assemble (assuming you have some model building experience). There are only 14 pieces to assemble and none of them are complicated. It is however a delicate model and requires a little patience so I suggest following the age guidance on the package of 14+. When finished it is a good looking display piece (not a toy).

Assembly: I used small needle nose pliers that have long jaws. Prebending a lot of the tabs sped up assembly. That includes the tabs along the top of the fusalage (not where it attaches to the tail), the tabs that connect the main wings (bend one wing's tabs up, the other's down), one tab on each engine, the lower (middle) tab on each back wing and one tab on the wheels. You might want to attach the wheel piece (#11) prior to attaching the middle fusalage piece (#1) to the underside of the nose. I found it tricky to completely secure #11 once #1 was in place. I was able to do it but it took a few tries. Also, the wings easily fall out until the stand is attached. To avoid one falling out while attaching the other, prebend the wing tabs as mentioned above, then first connect the wing with the tabs bent down, pull it up into position, put the stand into position and connect the two together. Once secure, then you can slide the upward bent tabs on the second wing into their slots, pull the wing down into position and connect the stand to that wing. None of this was too difficult, just requires a light touch and patience.

Other notes: To remove pieces from the metal sheets I pressed lightly on both sides of the joint and gently bent the metal back and forth with very small motions (without bending the actual piece) until it separated.

This was purchased for my son who likes both airplanes and putting together models. Working slowly and carefully, he got it put together within a couple of hours and it looks good being displayed. Would recommend to others.

This product and all of the Metal Earth items are not toys. They are an intricate model that takes patience and skill to complete. They were not FUN to put together but challenging. The result s very satisfying and the models striking. Do not give this to a child or anyone who has a short attention span or gets frustrated easily. They are fragile before you start building, during the building process and after. The metal bends very easily and care must be taken to properly shape those pieces that require shaping. The right tools are essential. You will need fine needle nose pliers, tweezers, straight edges for bending, a shear cutter to remove the pieces from the metal sheet and a good magnifying lamp. The effort will be worth it. For your first model you should choose an easy one such as the Washington Monument. Then you can graduate up to the more difficult . Stay away from the tanks until you have gained some experience. These are not your everyday kits.

I work on the 787 so I wanted at least one Boeing aircraft. I've built around 8 of these models now and this is one of the easier ones. One problem that I do have with these is the directions aren't always in the best order, I believe with this one it was hard to install the top section, it has been a month now since buiding this so I can't say for certain where I indeed had the biggest challenge. It doesn't show in the picture but it has front landing gear, I wish now I would've left that out as it looks better without it. As far as the model itself is I don't like how boxy it is, wish I would've tried forming it more round.

I saw this item in a local store and it looked cool. I purchased several of the models for my son and when I received the item I was disappointed. It is a very thin sheet of metal with cutout pieces in that you must connect together. The pieces are very small and break easily. The models are also very hard to put together for a kid and needs adult help. Also, once the pieces are put together the little lips to secure the pieces together break and even if you succeed to secure the pieces together eventually they become loose.

Super simple model, not so challenging as the buildings, ships, and tractor. Use bent/needle nosed pliers and tweezers. Look over instructions carefully before beginning. Not for little kids or anyone with very, very short attention span (unless you know how to stop when you should). I do love these "puzzles"!
