5.0 out of 5 stars FInally, A Game For PSP That Makes SENSE June 1, 2007
Format:Video Game
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you're a PSP owner, then you're no doubt aware that a lot of PSP games are either rush jobs for a quick buck or poorly-done ports of old PS1 games. Developers also want to take a system not designed for handling a lot of polygons and lots of analog action and try to make action games for you'll be pleased to discover that Metal Gear Acid 2 is a game that is made for the limitations of the PSP and works WITH the system to give a sound, fun and solid(us?) gaming experience.

First off, the game eschews long, drawn-out dialogue scenes for long, drawn-out text passages. It seems like bloviating and long-winded proselytizing are trademarks of the MGS line, so adding a fast text skip button gets you into the action quickly. However, there IS some small snippet here or there of dialogue and it breaks things up a bit. I'm glad they chose not to go with full motion polygon movies and speech because they used that saved space very wisely. The game looks..well, gorgeous, with the characters sharp, cel-shaded, loudly-colored and detail all over the place. The art is classic Konami excellence with none of that messy, brush splatter confusion of Ashley Wood anywhere to be seen. You get crisp, cool, cartoony Snake and Friends and it looks marvelous. Anime speed lines, camera cuts and a very decent in-game camera control make this game a treat to play. Also included is a cardboard version of those Magic Eye puzzles where you get a split screen image and the included cardboard box overlay makes it pseudo-3D (you can also use your eyes, if you're good at those Magic Eye things.) This is just a little extra and you don't lose anything by leaving it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect game for a handheld. April 8, 2010
Format:Video Game
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I've owned a PSP since it came out. Many of the action games that I play on it just didn't seem like a good fit. I heard about Metal Gear Ac!d being a turn based card game. I had not ever played a Strategy RPG or a card based game before, but picked up Metal Gear Ac!d 2 and decided to give it a try. At first the learning curve alienated me, but after spending a lot of time with the game during my daily commute, I've come to fall in love with the strategy, gameplay, art design, and card collecting aspects of the game. The only real fantasy card game I ever played was Magic the Gathering and MGA2 taps into the same crazy deck building obsession that I knew with Magic, except when combined with the strategic aspects of line-of-sight, character positioning, and cost management; this game just blows me away.

Graphics are great for the PSP. Colors are bright and the 3d is elegant and simple with no muddy 3D like some games have. The game is cheeky with silly humor sometimes. Case in point: ludicrous bouncy-breast physics on 2 of the female characters with silly camera pans to match, and silly video introductions of the new card packs, but these are points in the game's favor. Some of the multi-part missions seem to drag on a bit too long and the save system needs some work (no auto save, just manual saving during intermission). Loading and using equipped weapons took me forever to figure out as did getting the card ID numbers to show up. Deck building interface needs a better method of sorting the cards, would be nice if you could sort cards like you can the cars in Forza or Gran Turismo.

When you add it up, the few criticisms are negated by a great game designed from the ground up to play beautifully on the PSP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and innovative SRPG January 16, 2008
Format:Video Game|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Great game. It implements some interesting twists to the SRPG genre, and still manages to remain relatively faithful to the original MGS series, regarding the stealth element. Gameplay is collectable card related, and there are tons of extra missions, stealth, elimination etc. The 3D visor box-thing is very cool, the movies and gameplay are nice, but its uncomfortable to use. Standard 3D glasses might have been a better choice.

Here's a different side of Snake we haven't seen yet. Alright, with all the clones of Snake running around the MGS world. And when you've played through the Metal Gear Solid series... at some point, you might be cynical of the people walking in the street and the man standing behind you, who might just be wearing face camo. *pause*

Metal Gear Ac!d 2 brings the tactical espionage hero of the series, Snake, albeit in a different manner ... since the Metal Gear Ac!d series most assuredly does not involve Naked Snake (Big Boss), Liquid Snake, or Solid Snake (don't even try Solidus Snake). With that said, this is a whole different and new Snake sent off into a mission to shutdown an underground terrorist organization but more importantly, another brand new mechanical mammoth, Metal Gear. A brand new story that needs no predecessor or successor to tell of its excellence and uniqueness in story, the game while strategy-based may not cater to every MGS fan -- if taken in another light, Metal Gear Ac!d 2 delivers a rich and interesting battlefield mode, a card system that is built to help you maneuver through the terrain.. whether its from under a steel water pipe or on a bridge, looking to shoot down a machine or enemy soldier from across. Like all MGS games, they immerse you into their world and point you past the level of James Bond .. into the level of a much cruder yet [...] soldier that Snake is.

Step out of the box for a moment and check this game out, you might like what you find.

Just as described, The best part was the fact that this still has the original "Solid Eye" completely sealed and never used.

The game is very good, it's not for everyone but if you like the thinking games and the inherent random nature of card games you will enjoy it.
