Ok first off there should be an award of music game of the year cause this one deserves it. Metal Gear Solid music is if not one of the only true gaming music you can listen too. Every song is great and wonderfull. Escape made me feel kina sad knowing it was the music they used for the final Conflict between snake and grey fox. I dont remember I time that I havent listen to this music album. I listen to it at school and the gaming freaks love it. I tell em to buy it off amazon cause luckily they have it. Over all the music scores are brilliant. THIS FRIGGIN CD IS BRILLIANT. I TOTALY RECOMEND IT ESSPECIALY IF YOURE A METAL GEAR SOLID FAN LIKE ME! GET IT!

Best Soundtrack ever...,
By
This review is from: Metal Gear Solid (Audio CD)
Metal Gear Solid contained some of the best music pieces ever written, at least in my opinion. As a matter of fact, when I first saw the MGS1 trailer back in 1997, that brilliant main theme was one of the main reasons that made me want to buy this game so bad, and of all the hunches that didn't miss, this was a bullseye ! When I bought the game I was really impressed by the intro with the chorus, and by the way every piece of music was perfectly suited for every area. And the boss battles, just WOW. Now this is how a boss battle should sound like ! Personally, I consider these to be my favourite pieces of music of all time. This soundtrack is truely a must. Even if you've never played MGS before, you're going to be impressed. While probably you're a Metal Gear fan, so this is a must buy item that should be added to the Metal Gear collection.

Metal gear Original Soundtracks is an outstanding piece of music all together. it ranges from slow stealth and harmony music to fast adrenalyn stealth music and it is a very well done piece of composing. If you want to buy this cd then i would go ahead and do so, before i bought this cd i wasent sure whether it had all the songs i wanted it to have and at the time it was only 3! but you name a song from MGS-1 and this cd will have it! I truly recommend this cd to any1 thats a true MGS fan.

Hollywood score from Japan.,
This review is from: Metal Gear Solid (Audio CD)
This is a pretty late review, but I had to add some comments. Game music really has come a long way since the good old chip tunes on the old home computer systems. The first thing I noticed about the Metal Gear Solid trailer (for the PSX) was the music, and then I got drawn into what looked like a trailer to a Hollywood movie. The music works well and does add to the atmosphere of the game, but only when you're actually playing the game. On its own, it feels like nothing more than the usual Hollywood action score. One can clearly notice that the artist was inspired by such scores. Just compare this to the "Speed" Original Soundtrack by Mark Mancina. For example, compareSpeed's The Rescue to Metal Gear Solid's Main Theme I am not putting the soundtrack down for that. In fact, I love this kind of score, and would recommend it to anyone who already owns CDs by Hans Zimmer, Mark Mancina and so on. It is really no big surprise that Konami hired Harry Gregson Williams for the sequel.

The sounds of THE game Metal Gear Solid,
By Kristoffer Nilsson (Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Metal Gear Solid (Audio CD)
Metal Gear Solid is one 0f the greatest games ever made. That is what I and a lot of people think all over the world. If you have played it you have most likely been amazed how good it is. But a great game couldn't have becomed a great game without a great soundtrack(or background music if you prefer to call it that). The developers of it has not just picked out music tunes randomly. If you have played the game you will most likely recognize the songs(or instrumental as most of them are) from the game. I did. If your a fan of Metal Gear Solid you should buy is. I really recomend it. The album is just great to listen to. If you really hate MGS you could buy something eles but it still rocks. I cant't just describe how good it is. you gotta hear it for yourself. METAL GEAR SOLID RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you can relive the battle with Psycho Mantis [MANTIS' HYMN], the first step into the Heliport [CAVERN], your heart pounding as you attempt to evade (or kill!) the geonome guards [ENCOUNTER], the moving theme to Sniper Wolf's backstory [ENCLOSURE], and those ADDICTIVE little VR missions [VR TRAINING] ! and much more! Go out and BUY IT!!

It's Only the Greatest Game Soundrack Ever Made. . .,

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME, THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS :-( (Sorry, but I felt that this is the best way to describe the music.)I bought the game in 1999 and I imediately fell in love with game, it's well designed characters and deep, engrosing story and the revelutionary gameplay. So I had to have the soundtrack! The music is a perfect blend of synthesizer sounds (like 80's music) with a heart-pumping chorus. (For those who've played the game and have been found, know what I mean.)From the high tension tracks like "Duel", (boss fights) or "Escape" (fighting REX)to the easy listening "Intruder" and "Warhead Storage" tracks, It has it all. Even the most somber, but memorable track, "Enclosure" (Sniper Wolf's death) is included, along with the ending theme "The Best is Yet to Come". (The book contains it's lyrics as well.) The CD also includes the "Metal Gear Main Theme" (My personal favorite) and it's two re-mixes that were played at E3 in 1997 and the Tokyo Game Shows in 1998. Both are well done, but the longer version is in Japanese, So it may be a turn off. (If you must know what they're saying, It's the intro of the game and the very begining of when you play.) Overall, a must buy and perfect complement to any Metal Gear fan's collection. Get it while you still can!

As the reader, you need to understand where I'm coming from here. I'm not a gamer. I'm more into the original NES games and maybe a few Super Nintendo games. Because of that, I have a love for the Metal Gear series of games all the way back to the original NES game. When "Metal Gear Solid" came out, I was able to play it over at a buddy's house and fell in love with it. Great game-play, story, and graphics. But the music is what captured me. It felt more like directing the action in a movie than playing a game.
The music on this CD is exactly what you hear in the game. And it stands very well on its own. The price is a bit high, but as I understand it this is a somewhat rare item. I kind of balked a bit at the price, but after considering it for a while figured I would not find this music any where else. I'm not big on pirating music so I wasn't going to try and get it for "free". I would have preferred to pay a bit less, but I'm glad I bought it anyway. Great soundtrack from an awesome game!

Metal Gear Solid,

Intriguingly, there is no composer credit for the main score, just KCEJ (Konami Computer Entertainment Japan). The Main Theme, though, is by Tappy, and appears in three versions on the album. There is also a haunting vocal piece used over the end credits, and during parts the game, composed by Rika Murakana. Despite its title,`The Best is Yet to Come' it is a Gaelic lament. The lyrics are printed in English the CD booklet, and are less profound than the performance suggests. It is easy to imagine their origins with a Japanese songwriter who's not particularly comfortable with English. Muranaka also composed the end title song for the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 2, and the excerpt of that heard in the short trailer exhibits a similar cultural foreignness. It is ersatz song making, where the heart doesn't really match the cultural surface. Although this album runs a decent 66 minutes, it is sadly not the complete score. A piece that I miss particularly is the opening titles - especially the moment when the submarine speeds past the camera. The main VR Training music is here, as the first of three epilogues, with the percussion upped somewhat. Missing though, is the melody for a successfully completed mission, and all the later VR Mission themes as well. A shame, but I suppose this is fair enough as the VR Missions are not part of the main game. The second and third epilogues are remixes of the main theme. The first remix is from the 1997 E3 exhibition, where it presumably accompanied a preview of the game. The second is a seven-minute mix by Quadra incorporating sound effects and some of the game's original Japanese dialogue. Of additional interest is the element of kabuki that comes into the middle - probably the only time the game's Japanese origins are referred to musically. Tappy's theme, at least in its full upbeat arrangement, is not actually used in the game (though it is used over the title sequence for the supplementary `Special Missions' disc). This is probably a good thing because, as music, it does not suit the sombre mood of the game or its score. Instead, it is a heroic signature tune which would not be out of place on an eighties TV show. I think it is a general fact that video game scores, perhaps because they tend to be produced on synthesisers, have the style of eighties film and TV scores. In the longer trailer for Metal Gear Solid 2, you can hear Harry Gregson-Williams's orchestral version of the Main Theme. I was thrilled by it. Part of this was down to recognition, but I also think it was that I heard something new in the melody. Rising out of the sometimes tacky-sounding electronics of its original arrangement, the Main Theme has some real class. This could be extended to the score as a whole. You could gripe that this score could be better if performed by an orchestra, as the synthesiser clearly emulates that sound, but I think it would lose something. From what can be heard of Gregson-Williams's score for MGS2, it is entirely orchestral, and the flavour of it isn't the same. A scaled-up version of the present Metal Gear Solid's uncredited score would be a mix of orchestra and synthesisers. Sometimes, the score as it is cries out for a richer sound than KCEJ's snyths can pull off. |
