As most would be able to take into account, a written review is a personal take on the product whose views may be shared. This comes into play even more so with Ashley wood's work. Either you (like me) are all about the abstract way the artist depicts scenes and characters, or you want your straight forward scenes depicting characters who you know and love doing what they do. I like Ashely Wood's style. His work is like reading multiple paintings with speech bubbles. Its similar to that of Ben Templesmith, subbing the cartoonish features in Templesmith's work for more graffiti style characters. What might detour some from the books art may come back around for the story and how closely it follows the games. Another thing that may throw some (aside from the art work) would be the books pacing, which at some points comes off as erratic. But all in all, before buying check the artist. If you dig his stuff you'll greatly appreciate his contribution to the world of MGS.

The artwork and story is a true metal gear, full of action and plot twists. The visaul art sequence is great, making it a great graphic novel. Thankyou.

Wood's style drew me here. The graphic style is raw, angular, and bold, but with plenty of room for voluptuous gun-toting babes. His palette stays subdued, so forms really carry the imagery. Action sprawls across the page, too big to be held back by those neat little boxes that constrain the artwork on the pages of other comics.
It's a fair adventure story, with secret weapons, government conspiracies, assassins, and a deadly bio-thingie. You know, the usual. But it's a good usual, made even better by Wood's fantastic art. -- wiredweird |
