3.0 out of 5 stars Bang your head...
`Metal Health' put Quiet Riot and the LA metal on the map after record companies assumed that Van Halen was the only gold worthy to be mined in Hollywood in the mid to late `70's. Randy Rhoads had found success with Ozzy and the band he co-founded with singer Kevin Dubrow was left to struggle in the clubs after the first two records were not released in the US. Quiet...

Metal Health is dated now...mostly due to the mixes being so bass-light...but the vocals, drums, and guitar really rocked the world for the times...still do.

This band was always under-rated. I don't know much about DuBrow shooting off his mouth...but which metal band didn't? Motley, Guns-n-Roses...who did mouth off?

remember boys and girls...some of us have been listening to this stuff for years, it's not just a nice cool "let's get back into the 80's thing" for us. When most of you are trying to convince us you never rocked out to this album...I will still be cranking it up!

Rock 'em on the Flip Side DuBrow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Defined a generation, December 10, 1999
This review is from: Metal Health (Audio CD)
Like it or not, these guys kicked open the door for 80's rock. 'Metal Health' is the best album Quiet Riot ever released.

Powerhouse drumming by Frankie Banali finishes up the song "Run for cover." Carlos Cavazo is great with the guitar. The singles were "Metal Health" and "Cum on feel the noize" and these are easily the best songs here but a track like "Let's get crazy" could have been a single, too.

Moving on, "Thunderbird" is a great overlooked ballad. The only questionable song is "Breathless." "Battle Axe" (a guitar solo/song intro) is good for sheer amusement. 'Metal health', the first US album for Quiet Riot, is an excellent disc and a must-have in any hard rock/metal collection. As of this writing, the disc has sold close to 7 million copies, which isn't something to easily dismiss given the genre of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars The "other" songs are good too, March 10, 2000

I picked this up on CD recently (it was the first tape I ever bought back in Grade 8!), and it has aged pretty well, actually! Cadillac, Crazy, Breathless, and especially Run for Cover are good solid 80's metal fare, and of course the two big hits are classics, even if it's not cool to admit it. A great guilty pleasure when you're in the mood for a band with big hair!

4.0 out of 5 stars Metal History, November 25, 1999

Way back in the '80s this band woke up the world with this album, the first metal album to hit #1 on the charts. Today it sounds a bit dated, but in its time it was great. Big drums, lightening fast guitars, cliche-ridden lyrics, big hair - what else could you ask for? If you aren't singing along with "Bang your head", there's something wrong with you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Killed by Commerce, March 16, 2005
This review is from: Metal Health (Audio CD)
When Metal Health was released, "Cum On Feel The Noize" was immediately presented as a single for radio play. It attracted attention from a broad cross-spectrum of listeners: it was hard enough for a lot of Metal-Heads, but safe for the Preps to "Rock-Out" to when they were overcome by the heady mixture of beer and hormones at the high school dance.

That meant it wasn't hard enough for ME. I was into stuff like Maiden, Priest, Krokus and WASP, and if the PREPS could bang their heads to it, well, I just avoided it all on principle.

Fast forward 20 years, and, in my first foray into the Internet, I stumble across "Metal Health" on a heavy metal Internet radio station. Maybe it was the 5th of Jim Beam I had downrange at the time, or the Hi-Grade pot I had for dessert, but something clicked then, and hasn't lost it's hold since.

Instrumentally, though over-produced within an inch of it's life, the songs' crashing guitars and hammering drums are still loud and sparse enough to catch your attention and start the inevitable nod of the head that leads to an all-out whipping of the top 12 vertebrae in your neck.

Kevin Dubrows' near-screaming vocals take this one over the top. He must have scalded his lungs, the way he snarled and spat his way through the entire song.

Every time I get the opportunity to crank this one up to 11, I do. and it never fails to get my heart-rate up in the danger zone and send cold shivers down my spine.

Too bad the rest of the album is so limpid and banal. But that's what happens when you try to write for the radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of 80's Metal, February 19, 2001
This review is from: Metal Health (Audio CD)
This is the album that started it all. One of the greatest metal albums of all time and really a blast to listen to. These songs are just as popular today as they were in the 80's. Eveyone should own a copy of 'Metal Health'. Also check out Quiet Riot's 'Condition Critical'.

5.0 out of 5 stars BANG MY HEAD !, June 16, 2000

This review is from: Metal Health (Audio CD)
Quiet Riot cranks it way past 11 on this one. Ignore those who call it cheesy becauze they are milked out. The solo guitar track far outclasses Ed's Eruption. Metal Health therefore receives a rating of FIVE SOLID GOLD HUBCAPS. BANGMYHEAD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Underappreciated, underrated, and always a lot of fun..., February 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Metal Health (Audio CD)
A good band's best album, it should be in any true hard rock/ metal fan's collection. Chances are when it's no longer "trendy" and "cool" to look down on glam-metal these guys will get their due. They deserve it!
