4.0 out of 5 stars Great safe - wrong color sent
I got this safe for my ring bearer and filled it with money and goodies...my husband had the same one when he was a kid and loved it, so we thought it would be fun to pass it along. The six-year-old who received it loves it! Unfortunately, we ordered it in black and a red one came without time to exchange it. We never said anything and he never seemed to mind, so all...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, not very robust
I had a toy safe back in the 70s. Exactly the same except the tumbler was steel. This one is plastic. As a result the tolerances are low - you can be out by 10 numbers and just exert some force and it will open. It's a pity they scrimped a few cents on the most important part.

It's a good metal safe for kids to store their treasures and cash. The combination lock nob is somewhat tricky to turn. My daughter is 10. She had some trouble at first but figured out how best to turn the nob. A younger child may need help to avoid getting frustrated. The combination is fixed and cannot be changed.

I bought this because I was specifically looking for a kid's metal safe with free shipping. I wish it were bigger, but I knew the size before I bought it. Surprisingly there was not a big selection of other options to choose from for a simple safe for kids. My seven year old son loves it but he has not yet learned how to open it himself because the knob is way too tough to turn back and forth. He still likes it, but to me it takes away from the concept of having a safe for your "valuables" if you always have to get someone else to open if for you. I am still glad I got it. I would not order another one for another child unless I knew the knob issue was fixed. I am apparantly not the only one with that complaint.

I bought this for a friend's son and it seemed like it would be perfect. It had a lock to keep his brother out and he was so excited to have this bank. Unfortunately, you can open the lock w/out the combination due to the flimsy nature of this product. I wasn't even going to give this as a gift after I realized how terrible the durability was. It was last minute though so I did, as I had nothing else. Very disappointed.

It does its job! I often put all my money in it and it keeps everyone out of it. I've hidden the code in places in case I forget it.

Solid, durable safe is better than other kids' coin banks that look too much like "toys" and invite the little darlings to fiddle with them until they break them. The lock keeps the kids out and the birthday money in. Good way to teach the value of saving over time for something special.

I bought this for our "honor system" snack box at work. It's been great for that purpose so far. I remember my sister having a similar product when we were kids, and it wasn't hard to find on Amazon when I decided to start looking. Would be a great way for kids to save money!

I must say that it's ridiculous to list a product with "colors may vary" when this is obviously a children's toy and pink is obviously not a universally appropriate color. Further, safes were shown in black, red, and blue, so who would even think that a pink safe would arrive? As luck would have it, I received a pink safe. I have a boy. So, we are attempting to strip the paint and paint it black, which is a lot more trouble than we should ever have to go through for a $10 toy. At the same time, exchanging it is pointless, as we might get another girly safe. For goodness sakes, either list colors separately (seems pretty lazy not to), or allow for an instruction section to indicate what colors are NOT okay.
