Great for Solos,
This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
I only recommend this book if you're an expert guitarist who wants note-for-note solo transcriptions. There are MANY other books of Metallica music here at Amazon, mainly "Metallica Riff by Riff" which has rhythm tabs and music for EVERY song. If you want solos, buy this. If you're just starting out or just want rhythm, buy Riff by Riff.

Metallica made easy!!!,
By Kevin (IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
Ride the Lightning is a very special CD. The guitar book to go along with it is equally special. The introduction at the beginning is an added bonus. The songs are made very easy to learn. Of course, it takes a lot of practice to be able to play these songs. The solos are just amazing. I would recommend this to any guitar player who likes Metallica (and there are many) or just likes some good old-fashioned speed metal.

Ride the Lightning and Escape the Fire, man!,

This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
As an avid follower of Metallica and their teachings, I found this book a must. From the repeatitive solos in Bellz, to the intricate ballad that is Fade to Black, to the erie Call of Ktulu, this book's got it all. If you like any kind of music at all, this album/book has it.

Fairly Accurate,

This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
Again, like the Master of Puppets and Kill'em All folios, the notations are fairly accurate and there aren't any noticeably major errors in this book. Note position choice is sometimes a little odd, but the notes are correct. This is an excellent book to learn a lot of the early Metallica guitar techniques, as long as you down-pick most of the rhythm parts (Creeping Death won't sound the same without it).

If you love Metallica this is one of the best books you can get. Unless you're simply amazing you're going to need this to learn all the solos.

If you are looking to learn some of the most difficult music that Metallica has ever written, look no further, but it is a great learning tool for those like me that wanted to learn by learning songs that they like!

Yet Another Review...,

The Ride tab book is definitely a must-buy for not only the avid Metallica muso-fan, but for those wishing to upskill themselves in various guitar techniques. The solos are an absolute note-by-note transcription and each riff is intricately tabbed to include even the most subtle of variations. Includes a very well-written introduction, outlining some very important and helpful tips to assist you in your mastery of one of Metllica's finest albums. In a one-line verdict: A definite must-have, even as a collector's item!

Solid guitar tab book with a few exceptions,
This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
This is a well done, comprehensive guitar tab book on Metallica's amazing "Ride the Lightning" album. I have learned most of the songs (at least rhythm-wise) thanks to this book. The frustrating part with this book, and this also applies to the "Kill 'em All" tab book, is that there are several key sections that are not tabbed and you are forced to refer back to the chord charts to figure them out. Between both books, I've had to manually write down the tab by referencing the chord chart so I can learn the whole song. This is not exactly note-for-note as advertised as far as tablature is concerned. This applies to most of the songs, particularly in "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Creeping Death", and I had to refer to other sources to fill in some of the confusion in the way they laid out "The Call of Ktulu". I believe they corrected this in later Metallica guitar tab books, but if a book is tabbed, it should be tabbed in its entirety without having to refer back to chord charts in certain areas.

Decent book, obvious mistakes,
This review is from: Metallica - Ride the Lightning (Play it Like it is) (Paperback)
Overall this book is OK. Use it with caution however, because there are some painfully obvious errors. For example, the intro riff to "For Whom The Bell Tolls" is done by Cliff Burton (on bass guitar) but in this book it's tabbed as being both James' and Kirk's standard guitars, which would completely remove the rhythm section of the song.
