5.0 out of 5 stars About damn time!!!
In addition to every video they've ever made, for the first time ever the "2 of One," release (which up until now has only been available on VHS) will be available on DVD. All the audio has been re-mixed in 5.1 surround sound.

Here is the track listing:
One 7:41
Enter Sandman 5:28
The Unforgiven 6:21
Nothing Else Matters 6:24...

3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome greatest hits collection of videos, but beware this version is censored!
This is the collection of pretty much all of the Metallica videos from 1989 through 2004 (yeah, pretty obvious from the title, I know). So as a die hard Metallica fan since 1989 (the first time as a 13 year old, I saw the One video on MTV, I was just floored by the power of their music), how can I only give this comprehensive collection only 3 stars?

Well,...

4.0 out of 5 stars FYI, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
Just wanted to point out a couple of examples of the editing/censorship of the videos. In "Hero of the Day", some of the shots of the main character in bed with his girlfriend were cut out and replaced with shots of the program on the TV. And in "Turn the Page", the nudity was blurred out for our protection ;). There may be more, but those are 2 that I noticed.

Well, don't get me wrong, the video quality is fine, sound is good on my 5.1 surround sound system. But the a number of the videos (Turn the Page, Whiskey in the Jar) as other reviewers have also noted, are the editted, censored version. Look, I'm old enough to have seen enough titties so it's not like I got this DVD to see tits, but it does bother me a bit that I don't get to see what the director/Metallica originally envisioned for their videos.

So this gets 3 stars from me, but it's not really like we have another option to get the uncensored version.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well disapointed could have been great, December 18, 2006
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
Yeah the vids are great however the 5.1 is very poor in most cases it just an additional guitar you hear overlayed and makes it sound stupid.
Going to leave my system to upmix as it does a better job imo
The censorship wtf is that about? this is metallica for christ sakes the fans deserve uncensored with a parental guidence sticker on it!
nowhere on the box does it say that they are censored.

i bought this being a fan back in the day when metallica knew how to rite great songs and shoot stunning videos and am well disapointed with it.
All the vids we know are there so this is a plus point as is the 2from1 as it it fantastic (i allready own the vhs video) and the upmix on this is not bad on this one.
As for it the really poor upmix to 5.1 on the rest of them should not have been done its really anoying that you get the odd guitar riff that was not there before.

As to recomending it well its dificult in my opinion as you can see uncut ones on late night tv but if you want to own them you cant!

Buy it if you are a collector and have to have it, dont buy it if you want to see the vids as they was meant to be shown.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Great, December 6, 2006
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
I've been waiting for this release for a LONG time. It's great especially with the surround sound audio track. The 3 star rating is because the DVD is unfortunately censored. The videos that have profanity are censored like they were on TV and the "Turn the Page" video is the censored version that has all the nudity cut out. Same with "Whiskey in the Jar." It's not really all of their videos but I'll take what I can get! Also, the "Unforgiven (Theatrical Version)" and "One (Jammin' Version)" aren't in surround sound. No subtitles either. A solid 3. Maybe even 3.5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complete collection of Videos /But production is flawed., August 5, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
This is a great put together DVD package that shows the growth and (sometimes not good) changes of Metallica's Style and Music. The only annoying flaw (like the POSION video DVD) is the audio isn't very insync with the video=where James is singing and his vocals aren't matching up exactly with the footage. I don't understand why this happens with so many music dvds=is it that hard for the production dept. to get something like this right?

Anyways, it's great to have all the Metallica videos all together to watch and relive the memories of good (and bad) Metallica=Since MTV doesn't even show music videos (well, there's always FUSE!)

I will say though if you want ONE Metallica DVD then pick up CLIFF 'EM ALL which is old school Metallica and is filled with raw, vintage music and footage of what Metallica's REALLY with all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dolby 5.1 Sound issues, January 26, 2008
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
Who was the sound guy of this dvd? The soundtrack playing while the main menu is displayed is 8 times the volume of the videos!

Everytime you go back to the main menu to select the video you want to watch, or re-watch, you better make dang sure you turned the volume down before you get to the main menu or you'll blow your speakers.

Moron sound guy, moron producer? Who is at fault here? Does anyone involved in making this dvd ever sit down & watch it before it is released to see what problems might lie in wait before they ship it to the masses?

All that being said, great dvd! Metallica Rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars For any collector!, March 28, 2007
This review is from: Metallica - The Videos 1989-2004 (DVD)
If you or someone you know is a fan of Metallica, it is definitly worth them owning this for their music memorabilia collection! Givin' its average sale price, it would make a great gift. The extra musical cuts included on this DVD are awesome! They make the purchase even more worth it. Do I really need to mention the importance of the entire collection of Metallica's music videos too? I mean, would you be reading this if you weren't already considering the purchase? C'mon, buy it! You'll be glad you did.
