4.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of U.D.O's solo career

4.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of U.D.O's solo career, May 16, 2008
This review is from: Metallized (Audio CD)
Udo Dirkschneider is one of those constant presences in heavy metal. Like Lemmy or Ronnie James Dio, you feel like he's always been there, always will, and will always be committed to metal. Of course, most metal fans are familiar with Udo as the gravel-voiced singer of German metal pioneers Accept, but he has maintained a very active career with his band U.D.O over the past 20 years as well.

Metallized provides a decent, if not very comprehensive, overview of Udo's solo material, with songs from 1987's Animal House, 1990's Faceless World, 1997's Solid, 1999's Holy, 2002's Man and Machine, 2004's Thunderball, and 2005's Mission No. X. Conspicuously absent are any songs from Mean Machine (1989), Timebomb (1991) and No Limits (1998). For longtime fans, Metallized has a few gems that are worth checking out, including a live version of Bullet and the Bomb, two new studio tracks (Shadow Maker and Terror in Paradise) and an acoustic version of the Accept staple Balls to the Wall that has to be heard to be believed.

This is a great compilation for those who might be familiar with Udo's Accept material and aren't sure where to start with the U.D.O albums. It's also great if you need a concentrated dose of full on traditional heavy metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars U.D.O. Rules, March 7, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metallized: Best of (Audio CD)
If you like hardboiled metal and the neverchanging voice of metal god Udo Dirkschneider (formely of Accept), this disc is for you. Definitely an all around great collection of U.D.O. band highlights, the songs are all great, and this disc is definitely worth the purchase just for the "Balls To The Wall" accoustic version performed by Udo the Metal Maniac Mastermind himself. Udo's music is great for road trips and weight lifting adrenaline, so pick up this disc when you can, especially if you like Accept and other hard metal from the 80's. Udo, the metal voice of reason, always delivers the goods!
