Book Description

Scarlett MacGregor has lived a very sheltered life; relying on her books, music, and her best friend Evie for fun. During their first semester away at college, Scarlett and Evie concoct a contest to find their real-life book boyfriends. Scarlett quickly meets Ashton, Dylan, and later, Mason, and must figure out which one she wants before she ends up without any of them.
Metamorphosis is the story of Scarlett's transformation from a young, naive girl to a strong, mature young woman and her search for self-discovery and true love.

Recommended for readers 17+ due to sexual content and harsh language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! January 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I decided to pick this up after seeing it in my Goodreads feed a few times. I looked up the description on Amazon then 1 Clicked away @ 10:00pm figuring I would read a little of what I expected to be a sweet coming of age story before falling asleep. What I did NOT expect was to stay up until 3:30am because I couldn't STOP reading what is actually a sweet yet HOT yet FUNNY yet CLEVER yet HEART WRENCHING story.

Scarlet is not your typical 18 year old virgin. I liked her and she didn't drive me crazy like I have experienced in the past. She makes mistakes, can be too nice - but, she knows what's up and I think she does a good job of trying to experience life on her terms.

When it came to the twist (no spoilers) I would say if I had an issue with this book it would be that. I knew intellectually that it was going to be life changing for Scarlet but I didn't feel the impact on an emotional level. I saw it coming but when it did I just felt disconnected.

Scarlet has 3 guys in her life, Ash, Dylan and Mason. By the end of the book she picks one and it isn't necessarily the one I expected but I loved the explanation as to why. I thought - wow, a girl who is putting things into perspective, taking out as much emotion as possible and actually being rational. I was feeling that this book was at around a 4 for me at this point.

THEN I READ THE EPILOGUE and holy crap! There is a 2nd book and I wasn't thinking - ugh, there's a second book, I was whispering screaming - THERE'S A 2ND BOOK!!!! It WAS 3:30 in the morning.

I loved that she mentioned other books in here and I had to immediately buy Ruining Me! 

I ended up LOVING this book! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Boyfriends Galore!! January 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Oh where do I begin with this review? I guess I can start with the beginning....

When I first started reading this, I felt like I had read it before. It kept reminding me of another book. Young girl, just graduated high school, sheltered life, going off to college, breaking out of her shell? Any of this sound familiar?! It is funny because right when I said "hey this is just like Taking Chances!", the author herself brought attention to that fact. And you will find that there are many other books you may have read recently mentioned in this one! And I have to say, I LOVED it!

Now, do not let the above deter you from reading this book. Although it does have similarities to others, this story is its own. There is a uniqueness to it that you won't find in any other book. I loved Erin's writing style. The flow of the book made it easy to become engrossed in Scarlett's life and made you want have to keep turning the page!

And the boys!! Oh, the yummy HAWT boys.

First, we have Ash. Be still my heart! As soon as the author described him I immediately pictured a younger Charlie Hunnam and he will forever be who I picture as Ash! He is your typical college hottie who goes through women like most frat boys go through kegs! But when Scarlett meets him for the first time, there is an immediate connection. At first, she believes it is just her innocence attracting her to him and vice versa. But they both quickly realize it is something more...

Then we have Dylan. He is a sweet Abercrombie and Finch type frat boy. Scarlett loves spending time with him as he makes her feel wanted. And while they have fun together and she REALLY enjoys making out with him, something just feels off.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for YA romance lovers. February 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm usually the type of reader who reads a book, enjoys it, but never gets the urge to actually make a review. This is not the case for Metamorphosis...

From the very beginning, I was instantly drawn in because of the relatable characters. Especially, Scarlett, and it's not just because she's the main character. Her inexperience due to the strict treatment from her parents combined with her need to be free and live her life made me anxious to see her spread her wings.

Also, throughout the book there are mentions of a number of popular YA novels, for example, Beautiful Disaster. For me, having some of my favorite YA books acknowledged made me feel somewhat connected to the characters.

*sort of...kind of a spoiler, nothing big*

At first I thought this would be the typical, girl dates multiple guys, multiple guys finds out about each other, girl loses guys. However, I was surprised that Scarlett didn't really hide each guy from the other, they were aware of not being the only guy in her life.

*end of spoiler*

I am definitely looking forward to the second book.

On the surface Metamorphosis is a cute and funny story about searching for the perfect book boyfriend. The core of the story is so much more. It is a moving story about the journey through love, loss, and self-discovery with the added bonus of a love triangle. Or is it a love square? Maybe a love spoke? However you refer to the love story, Metamorphosis is captivating, entertaining, amusing, and surprising.

What I really loved about this book was that there was no clear favorite in the love department. Obviously there was more to one character’s connection than the other’s, but for me personally, between what I considered to be the two main contenders, I was Team Undecided. I would have been perfectly happy if Scarlett ended up with either possibility. This is usually not the case, there seems to always be one that is right for the heroine or one that is better. I feel like there was one that perhaps was meant for Scarlett, but who says this is the “correct” choice? The other option was so worthy and true that if she didn’t pick the “correct” choice there would be no real disappointment, both are perfect for her in very different ways. Together the three make an angst filled triangle of emotion and uncertainty, but individually each has their own wonderful and fulfilling love story with Scarlett. And three boys? Three boys is quite possibly too much for even the most experienced to handle let alone a virginal girl just dipping her toe in the relationship and dating waters.

The transformation Scarlett undertakes in this book is a true metamorphosis from sheltered inexperienced girl to independent woman who in less than a year encounters a lifetime worth of heartache. What is truly beautiful about this story is what Scarlett does with this heartache, how she grows and learns and fights to move on from it.
