A review from a pop fan,
By Justincase (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Metamorphosis (Audio CD)
Ok, I went through quite a bit of the reviews to figure out whether I should get the CD or not... and of course it was kind of useless because all there was, was too many people going "I LOVE HILARY, she's the best" and too many people going "I HATE HILARY, SHE SUCKS!" and I was like... ok..... like those are gonna help my decision. Truly, I don't think people should review unless they are into the type of music the artist is considered because mostly on a country album there'll be rap fans reviewing "THIS SUCKS" when they most likely dont have the album, and in this case, 23+ year old girls saying its just teeny bubblegum pop. OMG!!!!! What the heck do they expect. The Facts: Hilary Duff is 15, She is a teenage girl with a life, she is a beginning singer and yet there are people comparing her to Mariah Carey and Whiteney Houston???!?!?! First off, if you're into adult contemporary.. you shouldnt even be tempted to listen to this, and face the facts.. teen pop is in and teens would not give a f*$# what you think. Now I am a pop fan so this will be a true review. Well, unlike the past pop-princesses, Hilary is not sexual at all and keeps things on a G-rated basis which is actually kind of good. The songs are catchy ad the ballads are soft, her voice is pretty alright.. much different from Britney and Christina. The catchy songs are really great to dance to and move your head to... its great! Songs like "So Yesterday, Come Clean, Party Up, Sweet 16 and Why Not" just get you straight into a good mood while "Love Just Is, Anywhere But Here, Love Just Is, Inner Voice" are nice to lay back and enjoy the ballads. Overall.... IF YOU LIKE POP!!!!! this is a great addition to your CD collection...and if you dont.... why the heck are you spending your time here?

Metamorphosis,
By Lynn (USA) - See all my reviews

Well, well, well.First off, I would like to say I don't have anything really against Hilary Duff. I mean, she's a decent actress, she's pretty and everything. Her only problem is her "singing" career. She has an ok, voice- don't get me wrong- but that's just it. It's OK. Her CD is really repetitive in theme, lyrics and beat; and the stuff she does is very cookie-cutter. She reminds me of Britney back in the day. Innocent at first, fresh from a Disney show, but as her success grew, her clothes tightened and lessened in length, and her make-up grew. I don't like her CD at all, and I think for as much money as Disney spent on her, she should have been able to buy a better vocal coach. Lol. Anyway I don't have enough bad things to say about "Metamorphosis," but I truly hope I don't offend anyone. Thanks for your time! -Lynn

Reviews should not be a flame war between those who hate stars and those who love them, each side ferociously clinging to their prerogative that their belief is the only true one. That being said, despite this CD's (many) flaws, the lovable Hilary Duff still triumphs.First, let's be honest; Duff is not a singer, and this CD makes that obvious (KMart's exclusive "Metamorphosis Remixed" CD makes this even more painfully obvious). However, she deserves bonus points for keeping her clothes on and not betraying her Disney fans by selling out her celebrity in favor of tube tops and skirts that may as well be belts. Further, Duff doesn't claim to be any more than she is, and is wise not to present herself as such. Thus, Duff delivers some truly catchy songs with good production. Voice lessons will undoubtedly make future albums compulsory in any pop music fan's collection. This is a good start, and any flaws the CD has are easily overlooked by catchy hits and Duff's winning, force-of-nature personality.

A review... and then some,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Metamorphosis (Audio CD)
Okay, first off, you people who keep giving her 1-star and 5-star reviews just to make the average higher/lower should stop right now. It gives people the wrong opinion of the CD. Anyway, let me talk about Hilary Duff as a singer. She is just not singing material, the lyrics suck (which is not her fault as she doesn't write her own lyrics), and the songs are just plain annoying. I can't see any redeeming qualities to this CD unless you like to play frisbee frequently. In that case, just buy one for $2. Simple. Let's just go into one of the things people use to defend her, shall we? "She's only 16!" That is used so frequently that you should just dismiss it. Since there are other singers that are/were her age when they started their musical career that this excuse holds no water. Let me list some that started at her age, but are better: Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder, Charlotte Church, Michael Jackson, Frankie Lymon, and Axl Rose (who was 17 when he recorded Live Like a Suicide). What is even worse, besides the fact that she didn't write her lyrics (which is sad in it's own right since Robert Smith of The Cure started writing his songs when he was 15), is that she didn't even work to get her record deal. She got it because her show was the most popular show on Disney. You think that this girl could really get a record deal on her own. Hell no! Okay, now let's look at the lyrics written by professionals (who are older). "Why not take a crazy chance? Why not do a crazy dance?" I know that it's a song that says that you should take risks or life could pass you by, but the line "why not do a crazy dance" is just not relevent and is probably just there to make the song longer. Now look at something Alice Cooper wrote for his song Brutal Planet. We're only human, we were born to die Why don't you, come down to "This world is such perfection" (What a sight) It's such a brutal planet We took advice from that deceiving snake Why don't you, come down to "This world is such perfection" (What a sight) Here's where we keep the armies Why don't you, come down to "This world is such perfection" (What a sight) Right here we stoned the prophets Now compare the two. You will know the difference immediately. Looks like the music industry is going downhill. And it looks like Hilary is a part of it. WHERE HAS ALL THE GOOD MUSIC GONE!!!

Hillary Duff is So Yesterday,
By Brittany "Brittany" (Private) - See all my reviews

I'm sorry but she's a total fake... You never hear about her than all of the sudden she's everywhere you turn. Like another persons menchained earlier, her mother, Susan Duff is a producer and is probably how she got in the music business in the first place. Her voice is horrid, her sister wrote most of her songs, her "silver screen" acting is cheap and over-rated...it seems like she and Lindsay Lohan are at war with whose the better singer and actor...Lindsay Lohan is a fake singer, too but a much better actress. I espicially dislike how Hilary always seems to have the same role in EVERY single movie. She's always the goodie goodie girl and hasn't played much of anything else. Whats the beauty to good acting she may ask? It's the ability to play different characters who come from different places, not the same goody goody girl who we should feel sorry for.

please tell me hilary doesnt refer to herself as a musicianthere are people working in factories to bring home $100 pay checks, and Hilary Duff gets millions of dollars off of this completely shallow, gift wrapped, sugar coated piece of crap! She is the definitive meaning of the term "Sell Out"

It's the Spice Girls all over again,
By Lauren "Critic" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Metamorphosis (Audio CD)
I was a young elementary schooler when The Spice Girls hit the US. For almost a year i loved them and never understood what the older kids meant when they said that The Spice Girls sucked. I grew out of them, but it is not until now that I realize what they meant. Hilary Duff is simply a teeny bopper with 90% of her fans under the age of 10. Just as the kids from 7 years ago latched onto the spice girls' glittery outfits and fluff songs, they latch onto Hilary Duff now because she is the "cool older girl." She doesn't even write or have much of anything to do with what goes into her songs. Even other singers such as Christina Aguilera make up for some of that in singing talent. While I do not think her songs on Metamorphosis sound like "nails on a chalkboard," they are certainly nothing special. She might have had to "make it on her own" into the acting world, but her singing career is nothing but the record industry making easy cash off of a familar face. Those of you who have daughters under the age of ten, they will love her bubble-gum music. For anybody else looking for a new artist- I advise you to keep looking elsewhere.

Yes, well there's no more to say,
By Steller (London) - See all my reviews

She is utterly unable to sing! Even for those who are attracted to pop music in some form should avoid this C.D. The lyrics are shallow and meaningless. The bubble-gummy fluff of the whole C.D. makes it appealing only for pre-teens, in my opinion. DON'T BUY IT, and if you would like to, at least listen to it first!!

Typical Bubblegum Babylon,

This is probably one of the WORST albums ever created. The songs have NO depth whatsoever. Each song is more sugary-sweet than the one preceeding it. It's absolutely sickening to hear. It's hard to believe that these producers actually put time and effort into manipulating her voice to make it sound somewhat decent. Hilary Duff is basically a cheap knock-off of Britney Spears. All the songs on this album are either about boys, candy or make-up and they all sound almost exactly the same. 'Why Not' just listen to RadioDisney? They're constantly playing all her songs back to back. Sooner or later Ms. Duff will be 'So Yesterday'
