There's something missing...,
By MightyMongrel (WJ, Utah) - See all my reviews

About 2 1/2 years later, P-Roach is back with yet another album. Putting aside the ridiculous cover at first glance and giving the new tunes a try, what kind of impression do they make...?Hearing the first single "Hollywood Whore", I thought maybe Jacoby and crew had returned with some of the edge they had on earlier work like Infest, or maybe even Getting Away With Murder. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Just like many bands now days, The Roach has slipped into some "Mainstream" habits. Now not to criticize the band or their music - which I still love, it's just not the music that I was expecting from a band that's always been on the edge of what they want to sound like. Sure songs like "Lifeline", "Had Enough" and "March Out of the Darkness" are great, it's just not where their style should have taken them. At least on Paramour Sessions they formed songs that had great melodies and still had a little rough edge, plus some diversity about them. Here on Metamorphosis, there's nothing catchy or unique about them. It's pretty generic rock. Is that bad? Not necessarily. It's just a simple-minded album with something missing: thought. Still though, I enjoy this album. It's a good listen, and definitely worth picking up for those who enjoy this particular genre of rock. I just hope more thought goes into their next stuff. Otherwise, Papa Roach will be one of the many forgettable bands with forgettable music.

Papa Roach back in black,

Metamorphosis wasn't as good as Infest, but few CDs can come close. It's still high quality and super-charged with lyrical excellence.

Mature and real,

This review is from: Metamorphosis (Audio CD)
The guys of papa roach have been through good and bad, making still true to their grounds and peculiar sound, wich is something most of today's bands lack, that originality and deepness in their works, papa roach exceeds my expectations with this album, coming from all their downs and having said good bye to former drummer. The sound of this album is way much mature the moment you start hearing the cd, imo, this is good. Why? beacause it's not easy to loose on of your band mates and still come back filled with so many emotions and canalize them so perfectly through a melody filled with emotion, sadness, and you can hear it through Jacobin's voice, this band, with this album show now days mediocre bands, how music and rock is made through the sound of real musicians and the talent of all together. This album is a top influence in me, some songs can really get the best of you, and even shed a tear or to if listening with your heart exposed. Some of my favorites are Lifeline, had enough, Carry me,Change or die and into the light, but it doesn't mean the whole album rocks, because it does, and believe me, I will consume my I pods battery with this album a couple times and my car stereo with the cd in, for a while... Nothing short from deep and interesting!!!

Go on and whine about how this new album isn't as good as their last, or how they've change since "Infest". So what?! Rock music has changed since their first release and change can be a good thing, at least to those of us how like our heavy rock pure and simple.
Besides, if I have to hear the song, "Last Resort" or a copy-cat song similar to it on another Papa Roach CD, I'll probably go insane. I am SO sick of that song and to be honest, I think "Infest" is their worst LP. Hey, just my opinion. I'm not really into the whole, "I wanna be a white funk/hip-hopper in a hard rocking metal band" thing, and hopefully someday, this style will just fade away. Also, band members grow up and albums usually tend to change. If a band doesn't change, they get hell for "NOT" doing enough to expand and take musical chances. If they do change, they lose their core fans who complain about their favorite band "Selling-Out". One's reasons for a career in the music industry is to be heard, enjoyed and the bottom line is to make a living. Papa Roach isn't re-inventing music here, they are just giving those of us who love this genre a dose of what we love.

Quality Rock!,

I love all of Papa Roach's past albums and in my opinion it is the diversity of their music that makes them so exciting. This album is fantastic. From the moment the first tune kicks in you can feel the metal vibe! I loved the two singles 'Hollywood Whore' and 'Lifeline', they are outstanding tracks and show that this band has real talent. I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the album. I loved 'The Paramour Sessions' and I was eagerly anticipating this album hoping it would be of the same quality, and it is. For any band to follow a classic like that it's gonna be hard work, but they've pulled it off.
The lyrics on many of the songs show a maturity and reflect the current state of the world around us: 'State of Emergency', 'Lifeline', 'Change or Die'. The song 'Had Enough' sends out a positive message in these unstable times. This is much more of a typical rock album than their other albums. It's great. I love it!

This is an awesome CD. I've only had one quick listen so far but it's packed with everything that you could want from P-Roach plus so much more. If you're a fan from the Infest and LoveHateTragedy days or even before, please go check this out! This album is definitely the next level.

Another hard rocking album from Papa Roach! Beyond the singles (Lifeline and Hollywood Whore) there are gems found throughout the album. I see "State of Emergency" "Had Enough" "March Out of the Darkness" as most likely to see radio exposure and followed up by "Carry Me" as it is a very radio friendly tune. Great album! Worth the buy!
