Most of us don't get nearly enough fiber in our diet (usually from too much processed food and not enough fruits and vegetables), so we an extra push to help us make our push. Metamucil is a great helper when it comes to "working things out". These capsules are flavorless, easy to swallow, and convenient to store and carry. You can take a bottle to the office, or a few capsules with you in your pocket to take at meals, for example. As listed on the label, each "serving" is 6 capsules and gives you 11% (3g) of your recommended daily intake of fiber and adds 10 calories.

As good as Metamucil is, I do have a few beefs. I really don't like all the chemical additives. It is advertised as 100% pure psyllium husk, but it's not a 100% natural product. It contains polysorbate 80 (a preservative), and 3 FD&C dyes, a bit much for something that comes out the same color in the end. Polysorbate 80 is used to extend shelf-life and prolong storage, but the colorants serve no purpose, cosmetic or otherwise.

Secondly, the price is not very good. Lesser known brands/generics like Now Foods Psyllium Husk 500mg, 500 Capsules cost a lot less. At almost a third of the price ($.03/capsule), that's a huge savings. There shouldn't be any difference in effectiveness since the main ingredient is ground up seed husks from the psyllium plant (Plantago ovata, related to the common plantain weed that grows in many people's gardens). Fiber is fiber. It is indigestible to humans regardless of what company it comes from, so you're not getting any extra benefit out of paying more for one brand versus another. You're literally flushing money down the toilet.

My doctor recommended taking Metamucil daily for IBS.

The old Metamucil mix had a profound positive effect on my health. However, it was annoying to take when traveling, plus it really made drinking glasses difficult to clean.

The cookies were more convenient, but tasted slimy, which is not a good taste for cookies.

These capsules are even more convenient and have no bad taste and nothing to clean up. WARNING: ALWAYS TAKE THE CAPSULES WITH THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF LIQUIDS!

N.B. If you struggle with IBS, I highly recommend that in addition to these capsules you eat yogurt with active cultures at least once a day, and always drink a generous amount of liquids such as water.

these pills are very good, work well at their own pace, not aggressive, it is very subtle, highly recommend.

Two a day solves all the problems. Have sent them to my daughter who tried them and it has solved the problem she has struggled with for years.

Gelatin capsules - flavorless, easy to swallow. Six, taken with 8 ounces of water (or juice) is a "serving". Much better than gagging down a glass of orange-flavored glop.

This product really helped me take control of my "private time" and has become a staple of my diet.

Product is great but the same product is sold online by walgreens at 9.99 a bottle, $20 for 2 and cvs at 12.99 a bottle or $26 for 2. Why are these priced so high here?

After suffering through several episodes of diverticulitis, I started taking Metamucil capsules on a regular basis several years ago. I tried cheaper generic brands from Sam's Club and BJ's but found them to produce excess gas. I don't have that problem with the ones made by Metamucil. I have not suffered from diverticulitis since starting this regimen and they also keep you "regular". They are more costly, but its the price you pay to not have to suffer from excess flatulance. With Amazon's subscribe and save, they are very competitive with the bulk items you get from the warehouse clubs. Plus the added benefit of automatic delivery every couple of months and you don't have to worry about running out to the store. Saves on "gas", especially since the local warehouse club is 25 miles from my house.

I had been using this and then stopped for a while and boy did I notice a difference right away. All I can say is that it most definitely keeps me regular and I won't be without it. I'm on auto ship for this item. It's well worth it for me to keep me from having irregularity and all other sorts of stomach issues. I highly recommend it.

Stared to use this product for about one week now. Didn't notice too much difference in terms of my body reaction nor change of daily habit yet. I do get more of bloating feeling and not sure if this is normal. Will continue to take this (3 caplets per use) twice a day and observe closely.
