5.0 out of 5 stars A simply wonderful album...., October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Meteque (Audio CD)
My Mother asked me to buy this for her, to remind her of 1969. After listening to the album, I could hardly bear to part with it....it's compulsive listening, the words are simple yet wonderful, and his voice is a pleasure to hear. I'm starting my collection now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Outcast, October 1, 2001

Le meteque of my childhood... when we were more exposed to the Mediterranian music. Moustaki embodies in his music all aspects of the Mediterranian sea, warmth, love, tenderness, and passion.
A wonderful voice. Sadness without being pitiful. The meteque means the outcast a French friend once told me. Moustaki is someone who is an outcast and proud of himself. He has every reason to be.

I acquired the original lp in paris when I lived there in the sixties and listened to it often over the next two decades - I loved it ! It only recently occurred to me to search for it as a cd- my lp was damaged in a water heater leak. I have not not heard the cd but I expect the technical aspects to be only better, I know the content is perfect.

Imagine a baritone voice akin to Gordon Lightfoot's, singing songs reminiscent of the most personal and poignant of Peter Paul and Mary's repertoire, and you have an idea of this wonderful French singer. Moustaki, a former lover of Edith Piaf, himself became an icon in France, and is still working at age 71. He is little known in the US but well worth discovering for those with a touch of the romantic in them.

This is a beautiful album. You don't need to speak french to enjoy it. Georges Moustaki has a wonderful soft voice and his music is hypnotic. I first go this album in high school when studying french. Now, 40 yrs. later it is just as beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like an old friend coming to visit, September 4, 2007

I first heard of Georges Moustaki in the seventies and loved his music. I have been a fan of Edith Piaf since living in France in the sixties, so why not love someone who wrote songs for her. Milord is one of my favorite songs by Piaf, written by Moustaki. He has such a great voice and the lyrics of his songs can be very powerful, especially Le Meteque, and Milord for that matter. I hope to start a collection of his CDs.
