This 2 hour DVD is terrific and invaluable to actors, directors, and teachers and students of acting and directing-as stated by Martin Landau and Shelley Winters on the DVD. Method techniques are clearly explained and demonstrated by Lorrie Hull and her students. Cloris Leachman's scene critiques are priceless.I have been in Dianne and Lorrie Hull's Santa Monica acting, directing and writing workshops and classes, which I recommend , along with their private lessons and coaching, to beginners through advanced industry people.

I have studied with Dianne and Lorrie Hull, and highly recommend their 1 to 12 week intensive workshops and classes in Santa Monica, as well as private lessons in Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. I also most highly recommend this DVD to all interested in The Method or curious about the Method. Both DVD's are based on Hull's book by S. Loraine Hull:Strasberg's Method:A Practical Guide for Actors, Teachers and Directors. The second DVD just released in Feb. 2009 is also terrific: Acting Techniques-Advanced: The Method II. These DVD's clarify numerous misconceptions about The Method techniques of acting and directing. I have learned so much, and now understand affective memory as demonstrated in "Acting Techniques-Advanced: The Method II." I learned that affective memory is not always necessary, is advanced work, and at times only utilized when the actor cannot get what the director wants or what the actor, himself, would like to achieve. In Hull's classes affective memory work is not pressured, but only done when the student asks to try this advanced work. I feel that the Hulls help actors use themselves to the fullest, and help directors to guide their actors. I cannot recommend these 2 DVDs and Hull's book too highly--all sold by Amazon!!

This 2 hour DVD complements S. Loraine Hull's book, "Strasberg's Method As Taught by Lorrie Hull: A Practical Guide for Actors, Teachers and Directors." The DVD has a printed and a picture menu for teachers, students or the general public to quickly access each section, and is technically movie quality. It should be interesting to all those interested in how our best "method" actors and directors work, as well as to the audience members of stage, film and TV. I most highly recommend "The Method with Lorrie Hull, Ph.D. " DVD also titled "The Method."

It is a 2 hour updated version of the video, "The Method Based on Stanislavski and Strasberg," and complements Hull's book, "Strasberg's Method As Taught by Lorrie Hull: A Practical Guide for Actors, Teachers, and Directors," ISBN: 0971040117, also sold by Amazon.
The DVD is movie quality with printed and picture menus for easy access to any section. Teachers find the menu especially helpful, but actors, directors and the viewing audience have also found the entire DVD informative and interesting. People have written to the producers that they find the DVD has contributed to their appreciation and pleasure as film and theatre audience members.
All reviews of the video also apply to the DVD updated version including "Stage Directions" Magazine: "The Method" is real, vibrant, and absolutely absorbing...for actors and directors seeking to better understand the method, this comes highly recommended.
Students at the Hull Actors Studio in Santa Monica concur with "Stage Directions" review by highly recommending this DVD to other acting & directing students, as well as to working professionals, and also to people who are interested in appreciating and enjoying viewing acting training and how many fine actors and directors work.
Students claim that this DVD is of great value to them as they work along with it as if they were in Hull's class. People living far away also claim that the DVD guides them as if they were in a class for acting training and knowledge. Many use the DVD before enrolling in the Hull Actors Studio classes or for private lessons.
