Ruined my dishes and silverware., April 23, 2010
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I loved the idea of non-toxic dishwashing detergent. I had been using Palmolive's Eco brand that is phosphate-free, but it still had a lot of chlorine in it and I wanted to eliminate chlorine products in my household. Well... luckily, I just have crappy, cheap Ikea glasses, dishes, and silverware--the Method dishwashing tablets totally destroyed them. They have a permanent whitish powdery film on them that I can't seem to scrub off. Someone else mentioned hard water--I think I do have hard water--maybe the tablets react with hard water? I dunno. I have a fairly decent dishwasher that was cleaning the dishes pretty well with the Palmolive Eco cleaner.
I've tried everything--rinse aid, some kind of other cleaner that "cleans the dishwasher" and rids it of lime and other minerals. Nothing will make my dishwasher go back to the way it was pre-Method. I'm back to using the Eco brand, but my dishes, particularly my silverware, still look really bad.

Works even better than the "name" brands!, February 9, 2010
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I was a little skeptical of this product at first, thinking that something labeled "green" couldn't possibly clean as well as the name brand products. Boy, was I wrong! These little tablets are the best thing for cleaning dishes that I have found, bar none. I'm not a fan of "washing my dishes before I was the dishes", so I put some pretty tough loads in the washer. It comes out clean every time! I was using cascade before this, and it was never able to remove the caked-on mess on my spatulas. The very first time I used the Method tables, my spatulas came out looking like brand new. It works great on glass, too - I held up two glasses to the sunlight, one washed with my old detergent and one with the smarties. The glass cleaned with my old detergent had spots and residue, but the Method glass was completely clean and spot free.
The best part is that the tablets dissolve completely, unlike the gel packs that I used before. The gel packs had a bad habit of sticking to the side of the dishwasher and not cleaning, which left me having to run the dishwasher for a second cycle.
The pink grapefruit smell is mild and pleasant, and you only notice it when you take the tablet from the bag. I don't notice any scent after the dishwasher cycles.
I've been using these for over a month now, and I'll never go back to those other brands again. Method has a customer for life!

Works best with soft water, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I am always looking for ways to use fewer chemicals, so I decided to try these tabs. A few months ago, the house we lived in had very hard water. These tabs got the dishes mostly clean but left a horrible white, powdery residue on everything--glasses, silverware, plates. I gave up using the Method tabs and went back to Cascade.
A month ago we bought a new house, which has softened water. These tabs work great! Dishes are clean--and no residue left on the dishes. I especially like the unscented tabs, which leave no smell on plastic items.
(Tip for others: to remove the residue on your dishes, try Barkeepers Friend. Removed the residue from glasses, silverware and dishes.)
