Ruined my dishes and silverware.,

I loved the idea of non-toxic dishwashing detergent. I had been using Palmolive's Eco brand that is phosphate-free, but it still had a lot of chlorine in it and I wanted to eliminate chlorine products in my household. Well... luckily, I just have crappy, cheap Ikea glasses, dishes, and silverware--the Method dishwashing tablets totally destroyed them. They have a permanent whitish powdery film on them that I can't seem to scrub off. Someone else mentioned hard water--I think I do have hard water--maybe the tablets react with hard water? I dunno. I have a fairly decent dishwasher that was cleaning the dishes pretty well with the Palmolive Eco cleaner.
I've tried everything--rinse aid, some kind of other cleaner that "cleans the dishwasher" and rids it of lime and other minerals. Nothing will make my dishwasher go back to the way it was pre-Method. I'm back to using the Eco brand, but my dishes, particularly my silverware, still look really bad.

Works even better than the "name" brands!,
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I was a little skeptical of this product at first, thinking that something labeled "green" couldn't possibly clean as well as the name brand products. Boy, was I wrong! These little tablets are the best thing for cleaning dishes that I have found, bar none. I'm not a fan of "washing my dishes before I was the dishes", so I put some pretty tough loads in the washer. It comes out clean every time! I was using cascade before this, and it was never able to remove the caked-on mess on my spatulas. The very first time I used the Method tables, my spatulas came out looking like brand new. It works great on glass, too - I held up two glasses to the sunlight, one washed with my old detergent and one with the smarties. The glass cleaned with my old detergent had spots and residue, but the Method glass was completely clean and spot free.
The best part is that the tablets dissolve completely, unlike the gel packs that I used before. The gel packs had a bad habit of sticking to the side of the dishwasher and not cleaning, which left me having to run the dishwasher for a second cycle. The pink grapefruit smell is mild and pleasant, and you only notice it when you take the tablet from the bag. I don't notice any scent after the dishwasher cycles. I've been using these for over a month now, and I'll never go back to those other brands again. Method has a customer for life!

Works best with soft water,
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I am always looking for ways to use fewer chemicals, so I decided to try these tabs. A few months ago, the house we lived in had very hard water. These tabs got the dishes mostly clean but left a horrible white, powdery residue on everything--glasses, silverware, plates. I gave up using the Method tabs and went back to Cascade.
A month ago we bought a new house, which has softened water. These tabs work great! Dishes are clean--and no residue left on the dishes. I especially like the unscented tabs, which leave no smell on plastic items. (Tip for others: to remove the residue on your dishes, try Barkeepers Friend. Removed the residue from glasses, silverware and dishes.)

Works very well and smells great. Bonus that it's on the natural side and they don't test on animals!

The Best I've Found,
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I NEVER write reviews, but I am surprised by the negative ones. Maybe you will just have to try it with your machine to see how it works for you. I have switched over to "no chemical" cleaners. I have tried Seventh Generation dishwashing detergent and was extremely unsatisfied (Don't waste your money!), and also Shaklee and was satisfied (but is expensive), so I was thrilled when I found Method as an alternative. I am extremely pleased in it's quality and I have not noticed ANY of the problems others have written about. Fortunately, I have found what works for me. I would give it a try. Again, it may work differently in different dishwashers.

Works just as well as name brands,

We have been using Method's dye and scent free dishwasher detergent for a while now. It does a great job on all items we use the dishwasher for, including baked-on gunk on pots, pans and ovenware. I have not had the etching problems on my glassware as two other reviewers have mentioned, and I love how shiny-clean everything is when I unload. I have a Bosch, and prior to using Method have used traditional name brand dishwasher tablets, mainly Electrosol (my husband loves to buy the humongous canister at Costco!) and have noticed no difference in how clean everything is. I certainly feel better about using a phosphate- and chlorine-free product. I only wish Method wasn't so expensive, which is why I only gave it four stars.

Started great, ended awful.,
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
The first few loads washed with these tablets were like a dream come true. Glasses came out spot-free, dishes were clean but not chemically scorched, and utensils came out shiny. I felt better about reducing the amount of toxic crud that I was dumping into the environment, and I liked the idea that my dishes and cookware weren't bathed in poisonous chemicals.
By the middle of the 20-tablet bag, problems started. A small jelly roll pan went from shiny silver before the wash to black after the wash. A light film started forming on glasses. Traces of detergent showed up here and there on dishes. By the time we used the last few tablets, nearly all glasses had developed a powdered coating that could not be rinsed off with plain tap water. I found myself scrubbing glasses by hand, after they had been washed in the dishwasher. A different jelly roll pan emerged completely black. Dishes, utensils, plastics, pots and pans, and all else ended up coated in soap residue. It got to the point with the smarty dish tablets that only a dish or two came out without residue on it; each load was slightly worse than the one before it. I don't mind rinsing a dish or two after each load, but this was getting out of hand. I use a lot of other Method cleaning products around home (Tub & Tile cleaner, Squeaky Green laundry detergent, and Wood for Good wood cleaner are fantastic), but this one just didn't make the grade. For now, I'm using a phosphate-free liquid detergent, and will keep looking for a non-toxic dish detergent. If you have any ideas or better luck with this product, please write a comment. Thanks!

I LOVE this detergent! Been using it for a couple years now and have never once had a problem with it not getting my dishes clean or leaving a chalky film. Smells great too. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

Leaves white film on EVERYTHING!,
This review is from: Method Smarty Dish Detergent - Pink Grapefruit - 20 ct
I used to get mild white chalky residue on my dishes using other brands, but those films would rinse off easily. I tried these Smarty Dish tabs and now my dishes are permanently coated in this white film! I tried rinsing and then scrubbing with detergent to no avail! I am hoping the vinegar remedy helps. SEE PHOTO I uploaded into photo review section!

I was having a problem in my dishwasher with a build up of white film on everything. This happened shortly after dish washer detergents switched to non-phosphate. (I'm not complaining about that. I am in favor of things that help the environment and willing to accept some down sides if necessary.) I switched to Method grapefruit variety and just love it. I've been using it for many months now and the dishes look great. I like the fresh smell and so far, the dishwasher does not have anywhere near the build-up it had before. My only complaint is I wish it came in a bigger bag or box.
