Crude and depressing; why would anybody want to read it?,
By Mourning Warbler (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Methuen Book of Contemporary Monologues for Women (Audition Speeches) (Paperback)
Someone recently loaned this book in a quest for dramatic pieces. This book stinks. It is just like the rubbish we were induced to read in college. Plenty of women live in unpleasant circumstances, but I would not waste any more time than I have already with this crude and depressing book. I'd never want to hear someone whine one out any of the audition speeches.

This review is from: The Methuen Book of Contemporary Monologues for Women (Audition Speeches) (Paperback)
Although the plays and characters are well chosen and quite interesting, this book is not great for American actresses, as most monologues are in RP, Cockney, Irish or Scottish dialects, which is inappropriate for standard auditions in the US.
