I wanted to set up a small climbing wall, for strength and training, not a challenging climbing station. I was looking at getting the simulated rock holds, but came across campus rungs and realized they would work great for my needs.

I ordered the medium, which are 1 inch thick. As a very sporadic climber, maybe once a year or once every two years, I am basically a beginner. The 1 inch think rungs looked like they would give me a large enough grip where climbing would be easy. Haha. Once I mounted them to the plywood board on the wall that 1 inch grip was mighty small. Mighty damn small!

After using them for just over two weeks where I climb them multiple times a day, pretty much every time I walk by the wall, I have progressed far. I am gripping them much better and can do many more cycles on the board before I have to take a break. I am going to change the board this week and move them further apart on the board to make it more challenging. I also think I will order a set of the small rungs which are 3/4 of an inch sometime soon and add those to the board too.
