This is an excellent, basic rope bag, though not intended as a carryall for your climbing gear. I bought the replacement, the Ropemaster HC ("High Capacity"). This one is 20L in capacity and 16 oz; that one is 32L and 20 oz with a slightly larger, better tarp. Both compress to about the size of what's inside, so you sacrifice little for the extra space.

There's enough room in this bag for my 60M 10.1mm rope, but not a lot else. 70M is a tight fit, 80M a very tight fit. There are no pockets or interior partitions, so to avoid risking damage to your rope, it's best not to store much else in it. Consider Black Diamond's Super Chute if you want something capable of being your sole pack.

The tarp in this bag is about 4' x 5'. This is a key feature: you don't want to flake your rope into the dirt, so you need enough space to lay it down and flake to one side. This tarp has that space. For travel, the carry strap is short and comfortable, but makes it hard to wear an additional daypack. Expect to attach this bag to some other while hiking.

While I like this bag, there's little reason to prefer it to the HC replacement. That one is easier to find, costs less, and the extra size is useful. This one saves a few ounces and has more interesting color choices.

A few more thoughts on rope:

ROPE CARE:

* Store it loosely flaked in a rope bag away from any chemicals. If the rope is in your trunk, don't store or transport batteries there. Don't store sharp climbing gear in the same bag or pile things on the bag that could put kinks in the rope.
* In use, position or extend your anchors so the rope isn't dragging over a sharp edge. Rappel instead of lowering at the end of your route.

Metolius Ropemaster Bag is great for keeping my climbing ropes clean, made of strong but flexible material. Bag unfolds in to a tarp for keeping off the dirt.

Makes carrying multiple ropes easier. Bought a bag for my Singing Rock R44 10.5mm Static. They say it fits up to 70 meter ropes. But my rope is 120 meters and it fits fine!

The window lets me see what rope is in the bag which is a big plus.

Great bag. Holds my 70 meter just fine. Takes a beating and looks like new (just dirty from my trips).

I would really like to have a backpack, as the off balance carrying can be a pain, but if you want a messenger bag for your rope, this wont disappoint you.

The bag is great, the tarp for flaking out the rope is great, but what isn't great is the main strap on the bag. In fact, it I found that carrying the bag using this strap was awkward especially on long/difficult approaches where the strap digs into your shoulder and pulls you off balance.

Definitely best for anything that does not require much approach.
