I bought this item instead of a competitors less expensive model due to the reports I read concerning the matching of the coloring. Also, the manufacturer claims that their wiring is superior and stays connected. I had the power lead pull out during the initial install, another came loose 6 months later and the rear window defroster still isn't wired since three of the...

This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
I received this kit from Amazon a couple days ago and put it and my new radio in my '02 Taurus in about 2 hours. It is sturdy and looks nice though it doesn't look like factory equipment. I chose this one because others were said to look cheap and feel flimsy. This one is definitely better than that.

The plastic is multi layer and sturdy and holds the radio without any problem. This adapter has back lighting for the climate controls too and they look better than those on the 96 - 99 kit also made by Metra which look pretty cheezy.

The biggest complaint (and its not that bad) is that the instructions could be a little more detailed. But after getting familiar with everything the installation was pretty easy. It would also be nice if they included the removal tools. I ended up shoving drill bits and allen keys in the holes then pushing the old one out from behind.

One quick note, if your new radio is deeper than the Ford control unit, you will probably have to remove the bracket that is designed to hold the back of the radio. If you don't the kit will bulge out since it can't slide all the way into the opening.

Overall I'm very happy with this kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Aftermarket Fit, July 19, 2007
This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
The fit and finish on product was execellent. Other than the din unit in place, it is difficult to tell it is not a factory installation.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus SE. Firstly, I would only recommend you purchase this kit if the year of your car is 2000-2003 (as stated on the box.) The kit comes with everything you would need, the only drawback; however, is that the directions could be more detailed as far as wiring goes. The diagrams could also be better drawn, but what can you do. I had to take this into Best Buy, because I just couldn't figure out how to wire the darned thing. Although, if wiring is your thing, this will be no problem whatsoever for you. I would also recommend you pickup a "din" removal tool, which will save you a boatload of hassle. Overall, the thing looks great, works great, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who was interested.

I bought this item instead of a competitors less expensive model due to the reports I read concerning the matching of the coloring. Also, the manufacturer claims that their wiring is superior and stays connected. I had the power lead pull out during the initial install, another came loose 6 months later and the rear window defroster still isn't wired since three of the four wires were off in the packaging when received. I emailed the manufacturer who said they had no diagram and were unable to assist me in getting them on the correct pins. I would have been better off paying less for the competition and taking a chance on the coloring and texture matching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better then Scosche's kit!!!, August 1, 2007
This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
THIS IS BY FAR, THE BEST KIT FOR FORD TAURUS' 2000 - 2006!

I owned the Scosche kit for 5 days, the material was thin around the face and the posts that are suppost to keep the install kit from popping out of the dash, while removing it, one of those posts broke!

I order this kit the next day and have had no problems with it. This kit is made with thicker plastics where it should be, the rear defogger button doesn't look cheezy, the backlighting for the A/C controls are much more lit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Longgggg Delivery, January 11, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
The kit is good and everything you need is in the package so I do recommend the product itself. The problem was that I placed my order on December 26th and the expected shipping was 2 days later but it didn't actually get shipped for 2 more weeks. I was calling Electronic Express and the people I talked to gave me inconsistent answers to the question of where my package was and when it would ship. One girl that worked there told me that it would ship on Tuesday but it didn't ship until the next Friday. I got the shipment on January 10 so thats 15 days wait. I don't know if this is a usually occurance but for the record I recommend the product just try to get it from a different store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to replace a factory radio, July 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
My daughter's 2002 Ford Taurus SE had a broken CD player and no AUX-IN. I purchased this unit to give me a broader choice of radios.

It worked excellently well. The faceplate seemed a little flimsy in the box, but when it snapped into the dash it looked and felt like factory equipment. The locations for the knobs was exactly right, and the four controls plugged in firmly, again like factory.

The wiring harness worked well, but it was a major pain to route it through the car from the trunk unit to the front panel. I strongly recommend removing the center console between the two front seats in order to get it routed properly, but this was just 4 bolts.

Some of the other reviewers were unhappy with the lack of a wiring diagram, but I found that the wires in the wiring harness were labeled (ie, "Left Front Pos", "Left Front Neg", "GND", etc, on the wires themselves). Once I figured that out, everything was simple. The wire colors also matched the wire colors on my JVC stereo system, which was very convenient.

The directions don't mention this, but *DO NOT CUT THE FACTORY PLUG" that came from the old radio. The wiring harness that comes with the Metra unit snaps into that plug, with only the four external wires on the Metra unit being spliced into your new radio plug (power, ground, etc).

It took me four hours to install: 2.5 hours of unhappiness running the wires, and 1.5 hours of front panel work. But all of the existing Ford controls and the new stereo worked perfectly the first time I powered it up.

Follow directions, take your time, and you will be very happy with this unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Kit, June 25, 2011
This review is from: Metra 99-5716 Dash Kit For Taurus/Sable 00-03 Kit with Harness (Electronics)
Just got done putting this kit in my friends car and it wirked as its suppose to, we had to take the metal braket out from behind the old stereo which was rather difficult, but we got it done. The wiring kit that comes with the kit runs from the stereo to the stock amplifier which is on the drivers side fender in the trunk.
