Love this Pattern Drafting book!,
By
This review is from: Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear (Hardcover)
I bought this book having compared it to Helen Joseph Armstrong in the bookstore. I found it less bulky and easier to find patterns and ideas because the layout is more condensed and not spread over 500 pages. The amount of information in there is phenomenal. I have Dorothy Moore's Pattern Drafting and Dressmaking book as well, but I keep coming back to Aldrich! I drafted her skirt pattern and used pattern drafting principles in her book-and the skirt was the most perfectly form fitting 7-gored skirt I have ever made! I plan to get all of her books on Pattern Drafting. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because the diagrams aren't labeled Fig1, Fig2 etc-so sometimes I get confused as to which diagram the instructions refer to. But it is not an insurmountable difficulty.

Great book for beginners, but has one fault!,

This review is from: Metric Pattern Cutting, Third Edition (Hardcover)
this book is great for the novice dressmaker. It provides guidelines for taking accurate body measurements and includes a comprehensive step-by-step guide for drafting patterns for today's modern designs. However, for those of who are totally new to the idea of sewing, you need to buy a book which tells how to piece together the pattern pieces.Otherwise, it's a great buy!

I spent a lot of money in Helen Armstrong's Patternmaking book, but this is way cheaper, covers a LOT, lighter, and easier! Great choice, and excelent service!

Great book, great explanations and diagrams.,

This has given me a major boost in understanding of patternmaking. Very detailed, methodical and what many of us "visual" learners need, detailed sketches. It's my go to book for sure!

I bought this because my school required it but I've seen a lot of pattern making books better than this. It's good because it's small but it's kind of confusing.

I haven't finished reading the whole book, but what I have read has answered questions about pattern making that I needed answered. I have other books but this one has gotten right to questions.

Does not follow a general procedure to draw patterns,

I thougth that because the book has a lot of drawings, the book was good. The author uses certain amounts to adjust the patterns and when he explains the procedure for a medium size, he adds 6.5 cms to a dimension and for another size he adds 8.5 cms, but he does not say why. For other sizes, he does not mention the amount to add to that dimension, so the book is useless. So, do not waste your money. I lost one hundred dollars buying two of his books. The instructions to build the patterns do not follow a general procedure. I put both books in the wastebasket.
