Garbage,

This review is from: Metro Cast Iron Panini Press #1108 (Kitchen)
I bought this pan based on the reviews and description. My pan is in the trash as I type this. The handle for the heavy press is plastic attached by a metal screw. Well, the screw could not handle the weight of the press and it came crashing to the floor and does not screw back in. So, the press is worthless. The description gave the impression that I was buying a solid iron product; there is no mention of plastic. I might have kept the pan, to salvage some sort of usefulness, but it has a strange paint-like smell to the "enamel." I am not sure what is coating this pan because none of my other enameled kitchen pans have ever smelled like this. I just find this to be a total waste of money. It is not a quality item and I would not be surprised if some sort of recall occurs with this lousy pan. I hope I have saved someone else from making the mistake I did in purchasing this product.

I was looking at a Le Crueset version of this originally, but I found this product on-line. It came quickly and the quality is just like the other brand I have, but without the second mortgage requirement.

I love the fact that you can use this pan for so much more than
just paninis. I've used it to make hamburgers and to heat the Naan bread which comes out with lovely grill marks. You can even make quesadillas with it. Even though it comes pre seasoned it's a good idea to do it again. Otherwise things get sticky. The only downside if you want to call it that is you can only do one at a time. I bought this because I don't like breaking out my professional size panini maker unless it's requested. This is much easier to deal with.

I've used this just once so far.
Damn thing is heavy. It cooks well, but even though it is seasoned you still need to oil it before cooking, or everything sticks and is hard to clean.

For the price this product is great. Cast iron is sooo expensive. This pan is heavy, as they all are and came with a few small chips in the red enamel. Not bad enough to return. I haven't used it yet though.

I've used this pan a couple of times and love it. It puts a nice golden brown on sandwiches.

For the price, this product is unmatched. It's cast iron, which means it'll last a lifetime, and there's no non-stick coating to scrape off into your food or turn to toxic smoke if the pan gets too hot. The press is also exactly the right weight for pressing sandwiches, and is also cast iron. Probably one of the most quality kitchen purchases I've made since the VitaMix blender. Super cool!

enamel interior?,

I've used the pan just twice now. Grilled some steak and bacon for a sandwich, and made Paninis tonight. My major concern is that the interior is not enameled. The interior has a rough service much closer to cast iron then the smooth glossy outside. Also the bread I cooked stuck a bit to the pan. But I was cooking a at a higher then needed heat. I do like that the knob is removable for oven cooking but I'm worried the screw for the knob might break at some point as it is some what loose. So for the price I think this is an alright buy which I'll be happy with. In the future I may look for something a higher quality then the Metro Panini Grill.
