5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but what about Zero Mission
Metroid was one my favorite games, so I'm glad they made it on the GBA. Only one problem... Metroid: Zero Mission. Metroid: Zero Mission is a remake of Metroid. Once you complete the game, you can play the whole game of the original Metroid. Don't get me wrong but Metroid: Zero Mission is still the better game. I'm giving Metroid a 9/10.

Metroid is said to be one of the greatest series in gaming history. Not only did Metroid invent a genre that has constantly been used over and over again, but it had original gameplay that allowed you to explore the world without a set path. The classic NES series gives us all a chance to play the original Metroid again. Unfortunately, Metroid suffers from what other games in the Classic NES Series suffer from. The game, as you probably know, has already been re-released (you probably don't even know you have it) and the price to buy this classic is much too expensive.

Metroid has a simple concept. You're Samus Aran, sent to the planet Zebes to destroy the Mother Brain and the Metroid threat and save the galaxy. Going through the midst of Zebes, Samus will gain new abilities to help her along the way.

The gameplay is pretty basic: If anything moves, shot it. You're job is to explore Zebes, find all your abilities and destroy the Mother Brain. In my opinion this is the most challenging Metroid adventure.

Nintendo has only added one new feature, and its pretty handy. You no longer have to enter a password as you can now save your game onto the cartridge itself. The password is stored in the system and is already on the screen when you choose to continue.

Graphically, it looks no different than it did in 1986. Of course, this in itself presents problems. Since this is a direct port of the original Metroid, all the glitches and such are still there.

Music wise: the game the still sounds pretty good. By now everyone should know the Metroid theme, and the original theme still sounds good even twenty years later.

But of course this game does have its backdrops. I wanted so badly to give this game five stars but there's no possible way I can do it with how Nintendo is ripping people off.

This game, as the previous reviewer mentioned, has already been re-released. If you have Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, a GBA and a GCN/GBA link cable you can unlock the original Metroid in Metroid Prime. Also, for just ten dollars more you can buy Metroid: Zero Mission and the original game (which is actually the EXACT SAME AS THIS) can be unlocked. So chances are, you've already got the original Metroid.

This certainly isn't worth forking over $20 dollars for since its already out there enough as it is. Save your money and instead buy Metroid: Zero Mission and unlock the original Metroid game. That's more worth the money because you get two games as opposed to one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this!, January 10, 2005

I am going to disregard reviewing the game itself- aside from saying that it is, for better or worse, the same exact game released for the NES- to comment on the fact that this reissue is completely unnecessary.

If you purchase Metroid: Zero Misson and complete it (not a hard thing to do- the game is pretty easy and over quickly), you will have access to the original NES Metroid, the same game as the Game Boy Advance Classic NES Series Metroid.

So therefore, Zero Mission gives you two games for the price of one, making this release rather pointless.

3.0 out of 5 stars I have not gotten this, February 9, 2005

Let me tell you, I love the Metroid games. All the ones I got have great storys to each of them. I don't own this so I can't tell you what I think. All I wanted to say was to get
Metroid-Zero Mission instead because First of all, it has a great story, and second it also has this game on it. But you do have to get through it first. Or if you just want to play the NES Metroid without having to get through another game, then go for it and buy this. Either way, you'll be getting a good deal.

don't buy this game. No matter how cheap it is, don't waste your money. The original Metriod can be unlocked after you beat Metroid Zero Mission, which only costs about $15 more and also comes with an entire new game. Not to mention it is also unlockable in Metroid Prime for the Nintendo Gamecube.

Let me repeat. This is game has been released about 2 other times with Metriod Prime and Metroid Zero Mission games. Not to mention both Metroid Prime and Zero Mission can be purchased at at least $25 dollars or less.Tsk tsk....shame on you Nintendo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metroid NES Classic, March 15, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metroid (Classic NES Series) (Video Game)
The Classic NES title "Metroid" for the Game Boy Advance. The game is the exact same as the NES version with the exception of an added save feature. It's nice to play a classic game on a mobile system. I would suggest this game for anyone interested in collecting the Classic NES series games. However, for anyone who just wants to play the game, I would suggest buying "Metroid: Zero Mission" for the Game Boy Advance. It is an updated version of the original "Metroid" and it contains an unlockable version of the original game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Metroid review, October 25, 2010

Even thought it is an exelent game, and i like it, it probably my least favorite in the Metrois series. The graphics have a nice amount of detail to them, and are dark in style. The music helps give the game a creepy atmosthere, and is pretty catchy in my opinion. Controlwise its ok. Samus can only shoot to the sides and up, this creates a problem because lots of the enemies on the groung are to short to shoot, but its resolved when you get the wave beam or ball bomb. Junping is ok also, even though i smetime had a little trouble landing my jumps just where i wanted , but it was probably my lack of skill. The gameplay has plenty of action with lots of enemies to shoot, rooms to explore and lots of platforming. I actualy foung this game to be pretty hard for one reason, when you continue your game you start with very low energy, and energy powers up are not very common in this game, and that the only thing that makes it hard. This port of Metroid has a save function that saves your password whitch is cool, but if you decide to start a new game you can accidentaly overwrite your previous data, so be carefull. This is a fine port of the original game, and if you like your nes games on the go then i'd recomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metroid, October 4, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Metroid (Classic NES Series) (Video Game)
I have the original cartrige for the NES and now I have the one for GameBoy Advance. Ah, the good old days when I was a kid, I was playing Metroid for the Nintendo. It's a lot better on the GameBoy Advance because the original Nintendo you had to blow on the cartrige and reset the Nintendo just to play the game, that gets annoying after a while, plus if you lose in the game you have to start from the very begining of the stage...

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun to play the original, but get 0M over this, April 28, 2006
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Metroid (Classic NES Series) (Video Game)
Ah, the original Metroid. I love the original. However, this is a waste of money. Why could such a classic game be a waste? Cuz if you buy Metroid: Zero Mission and beat it (which actually only takes about 2-3 hours for an average gamer), you'll unlock this game. So basically you get 2 games in 1 with 0M. But still, this game is fun, insanely tough, and it's just classic. Zero Mission may give you all the updates to the Metroid series like wall jump and Speed Booster and combining of beams, but it's a cakewalk compared to the original. This is a good game, but if you want more money's worth, just get it with 0M.
