4.0 out of 5 stars works fine - with a little squirt of WD 40!
When I first got this it worked great but then - about a day later the gears started freezing up. I read somewhere on here that someone else complained of "shavings" from the gears.

I think they were strong arming theirs. I gave mine a little shot of WD 40 and let it run down in the gear area and it works GREAT! No problems at all. It does take some muscle...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap metal
When I first got the juicer, I absolutely loved it! Finally, fresh O.J.! Worked well, was able to juices 10-20 lbs. of oranges in minutes. However, I did get the feeling there was still plenty more left in the halves. Then one day the gears felt "sticky", and then on one more pull of the arm the metal body just cracked and broke! Right where the arm attaches to the body it just cracked apart. This was not mechanical. it was just poor quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far from being "professional", January 13, 2004

Nice looking chrome gadget but we found it to perform poorly. The holding glass is small and tilted very easily. The halves stucked to the cup on the lever. You have to remove the fruit halves with your fingers (very impractical and messy). The cranker does not produce enough leveler pressure often leaving plenty of juice in the halves, no matter how hard you push. If you push to hard the stability of the juicer is not good. There are no suction feet to hold the machine in place. Can't recommend it. Far from being a so call "professional" equipment.

I think they were strong arming theirs. I gave mine a little shot of WD 40 and let it run down in the gear area and it works GREAT! No problems at all. It does take some muscle to really extract the juice and you can only do one half of a fruit at the time but it will handle anything from small grapefruits to limes.

Want a real good drink? (I like Mt. Dew) Take a lime and half it. Squeeze the juice out and add it to your regular Mt. Dew. To me THAT'S how a lime flavored drink should taste! mmmm-good!

If you don't want to work for your fresh juice this isn't the juicer for you.

Some have mentioned problems with the gears but a quick spritz of WD 40 on mine and it's worked fine since I've had it.

It'll squeeze small grapefruits to small limes and everything in between.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Opinion, July 16, 2002

Hmmm, now that I have received the second juicer, it turns out that it has the spring loaded arm. I felt this one would have parts that could break in the future (the spring in the arm). It turns out that I like the spring loaded arm, it makes the task a little bit easier. Going back to my first Metrokane juicer, the manual arm style that I swore by, now seems to be a little bit of a hassle. Also, this new one is COMPLETELY polished chrome "looking". The only caveat is that the base seems to be a polished steel "covered/molded" PLASTIC! (I hate plastic!) So, the one made entirely of steal is virtually unbreakable, but a little taxing as far as effort is concerned. The spring loaded arm version is, in comparison, more cheaply made, but a bit easier on the arm. I use both and am keeping both. Whichever one you would like to have, remember... FRESH SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE RULES!!! :o) Enjoy!!

Have had this device since last September, and have squeezed many dozens of lemons and limes without a problem. Works great. Highly recommend immediate cleaning, as you don't want to ruin the nice finish. Here's my recipe for terrific fresh juice margaritas, the only way to go!!

Squeeze 2 nice fat juicy limes
Squeeze 1 good size lemon
Add 2 shots good tequila
Add 1 shot triple sec
Add 2 teaspoons sugar
Add ice, shake well, enjoy!!

I wasn't sure at first if I would even use this or not. After all, I already have a "standard" citrus juicer, as well as a large juicer for throwing in the whole fruit. But after owning this a few month's, it is the one I turn to the most often. Fresh-squeezed lemon or lime in a dish I am preparing? Takes 2 seconds -- less time than it takes to bring the other device out of the cupboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get What You Pay For, November 17, 2003

This review is from: Metrokane Chef's Juicer (Kitchen)
This is the best juicer I have ever used. It is easy and fast, and breaskdown is simple as well. This is very well made, and is heavy enough to be considered an industrial juicer, yet is small enough to store in the home kitchen. This juicer is a sure bet to better cocktails!
