The latest super-cool addition to Metrokane’s innovative cork-pulling devices is The Wing Machine, which exposes industrial-looking metal gears behind its clear plastic casing. In addition to its striking appearance, this corkscrew is durably constructed to deftly extract a cork with little effort and is the first wing-style corkscrew that is guaranteed to never damage a cork. To operate, place The Wing Machine over the top of your wine bottle. The flexible catch adjusts to any bottle size for a secure fit. Next, push on the handle to sink the nonstick spiral into the cork and the automatic gear shift locks the spiral into place. Continue turning the handle clockwise until the corkscrew’s wings are facing upward. Press down on the wings to extract the cork. For the final step, press the gear button on the front of The Wing Machine and the spiral ejects the cork. This soon-to-be patented device should be cleaned with a damp cloth but, to preserve the gears, it should never be submerged in water. I am struggling trying to find the best wine opener....so far so bad.

I bought this and figured it would do its job well.....wow was I wrong.

First - this thing weighs as much as some full wine bottles....

Second its very confusing in how it works with its latching system....

I tried it on 2-3 bottles and just ended up going back to my $5 solution to open bottles.

If you are looking for something that looks cool then this item is for you... However, if you are a casual wine drinker at home, then this is probably not something you need....any cork screw will work fine.

3/5 in my humble opinion.

This gadget looks space age and will extract a cork as advertised. That positive comment doesn't address what happens when the bottler changes to synthetic "corks." The screw enters as usual but when you attempt to push down on the wings the bottle starts spinning. The solution is to hold the wings and the neck of the bottle (contortionists please apply) and press the wings until the "cork" comes out. This one was designed for real corks and if your bottles always have such you'll be quite happy with the Metrokane.

I was very disappointed with the way this product performed. It does not seat properly on the top of the bottle, thus the screw enters the cork off center making pulling difficult and resulting with a ruin cork with cork particles inside the bottle.
