4.0 out of 5 stars So much nicer than corkskrew wine openers
I really like this wine opener and it is very easy to use. The only drawback I have run into is keeping it charged. If it doesn't have at least a partial charge, you can't use it. I thought I would be able to plug it in and use it, but you have to wait until it charges up before use. I don't drink wine on a regular basis, so it is hard for me to remember to keep it...

After using this opener for a few weeks, and comparing it to the Oster 4207 Electric Wine-Bottle Opener which I own and have been using for a year, I prefer the Oster to the Metrokane.

Don't get me wrong; the Metrokane is a beautiful device, and the LCD is a pretty cool feature for this opener, but it doesn't compete with the functionality of the Oster. The Oster is lighter, faster, more reliable, and less than half the price of the Metrokane! Before buying this opener, definitely consider the Oster. For the same $50, you can have two openers (one could be a gift, one for you) and a bottle of wine to go with it!

I struggled with the number of stars here. I can't really say that I dislike the Metrokane. It does work much of the time, and is very cool to use. Comparing it to the Oster (which I've rated 5 stars) is what really lowers the review here.

I bought this for my mother for Xmas. I have never been so embarrassed about a gift that I have given someone. I fully charged it before I wrapped it and was planning on opening the bottle of wine at dinner with it. When that time came, not only did it not even come close to opening the bottle after repeatedly trying, it started splitting the opener apart. It immediately went from a full charge to a half, without even opening 1 bottle. My mother couldn't tell me to return it fast enough (which I did). Thinking at first it was the shape or size of the bottle I was trying to open with it, I decided to take it home at try it on a smaller bottle. It didn't open that bottle either. Now the charge was completely drained to "zero" and not one bottle had been successfully opened. I sincerely hope that anyone reading this will take my advice and research the different brands and styles first before jumping to purchasing this product. I found a less expensive automatic corkscrew at a local store and found it to work much better than this one did for a major fraction of the price. If you do want to give this as a gift, may I suggest you yourself purchase one first and try it out for awhile, before you too are disappointed and embarrassed.

The internal cavity of the Electric Rabbit measures 1.188" in diameter. The top portion of two wine bottles we attempted to open measure 1.25" in diameter, and that is with the foil stripped off of the side. Talbott and St. Francis Chardonnay were the brands, and both are domestic.

The Electric Rabbit is well-made but should only be considered for wine bottles measuring less than 1.188" in diameter at the widest point on the top of the bottle. In light of this I will be asking Amazon to issue an RMA.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Corkscrew, August 14, 2010

This item works well most of the time. However, it does NOT open 30 bottles, which illuminated number on the top indicates (it calculates pushing on the down button to insert the corkscrew as #1 and then pushing on the up button to remove the corkscrew as #2 -- thus counting TWICE for each opening, meaning it only opens 15 bottles. It also does not keep the charge for the whole time and has to be recharged about half way through when the corkscrew gets stuck in the cork and the mechanism just quits -- the removal of the cork at that point can only be completed by plugging the opener into the charger.

I have tried to open three bottles of wine and each time this product has failed. When I insert it into the cork it just spins and ruins the cork which in turn the shredded cork goes into the wine. What a waste of $50.00.I lost my receipt otherwise I would have shipped it back.DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Biggest bummer at Christmas, January 14, 2011

Okay, this just flat out does not work. I know it seems like a great idea, but they have to go back into the lab to figure out something else. I've tried to open one dozen bottles of wine with this since Christmas, and it never lifts the cork out of the bottle. Old wines, new wines, red wines, white wines. You name it, it doesn't work. Funny story -- my wife bought me one and I bought her one. Both are going back. Every time, I need to rescue the cork with an old-fashined cork-puller. I guess some tasks were never ment for modernization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works GREAT!, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Metrokane 6200 Electric Rabbit Corkscrew, Black (Kitchen)
New products always worry me, but the Metrokane Electric Rabbit Corkscrew works great! The corkscrew is easy to use, pulls out the cork quickly, and requires no physical strength. A fun tool to add to my wine collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money. Pure hype!!!, August 15, 2011
The opener does not "grab the bottle". You have to hold the bottle w/one hand & the opener with the other hand. It destroys the cork as the screw will never go in straight. It always goes in at an angle and sometimes it goes in at such an extreme angle that it will not pull the cork all the way out and you have to jiggle the opener back and forth to get the cork out. I will go back to using my Waring cork puller & sell this one for $20 in the weekly "Penny Saver" newspaper supplement. The Waring is much easier for my wife to use as it requires less downward pressure to get the screw started into the cork and the foil cutter is also easier to operate (and more reliable). All of these openers have a drawback in that it is very difficult to get the screw started into the cork(Waring & Oster included). The screw will sometimes just spin on top of the cork unless you really press down on the tool. As it is spinning around on top of the cork trying to start it just chews up the top of the cork and the pieces of the cork wind up in the wine or stuck to the inside of the neck of the bottle.
Bottom line, unless you cannot use a two prong cork puller, do not buy an electric Rabbit. Save your money.

I sent e-mail to Metrokane outlining the above problems & asked for a response. Stiiiilll waiting. Great customer service.
