Product Description

Color: Red

The Rabbit Wine-Chilling Carafe keeps wine chilled the natural way. (No plastic ice chamber! No freezable chemicals!) It's a more effective chilling carafe because the stainless ice chamber is a highly efficient cold-transfer material, far superior to glass or plastic.

Though I bought my chilling carafe from a site other than Amazon, I was directed to it from the Amazon page for this product.

Though I read the several reviews (below) from people who broke the carafe the first time they tried using it, I figured hey, I can do better than that.

Well, I can't. I didn't break the carafe, but only because it immediately became apparent to me that the stainless steel chiller is TOO SMALL for the carafe, even if only by about 1/64 inch, so I didn't try forcing it on. It's obviously a defective match between the glass carafe and the metal chiller. There's a YouTube video showing how to use the unit, and it clearly shows the chiller being slipped into the carafe effortlessly. If you buy one of these and you can't do that, send it back, and DON'T try forcing the chiller into the carafe. There's obviously a defective batch of these units out on the market.

By the way, my thanks to reviewers Nate and Carlton. If it hadn't been for them, I'd have tried to force the chiller into the carafe and broken the glass.

Update as of 3 July: just got my replacement chilling carafe and it works fine: chilling unit fits snugly into the carafe, but there's no danger of it breaking the glass. Slides right in.

With patience I assembled the chiller. Actually "chiller" is a misnomer. If you pour a 50 degree 750 ml ( 24.5 oz) .bottle of wine into the decanter it really won't get cooler than 50 degrees for long. At this point only 6 inches of the ice tube is in contact with the wine. The other five inches do not touch the wine. When you get to 14 oz. only 1.5 inches touch the wine. At 9 oz. the wine is on it's own (and quickly warms).

Suggestion: Put your white wine in the freezer or in an ice bucket until COLD then place in carafe.

I also added water to about 90% of the tube and froze it. Worked better than ice cubes.

In all fairness I love the basic design and the concept. Metrokane, if you tested this chiller did you not experience the same results?

Would love to have a newer model after addressing the problem.

The design is so simple, it's hard to figure out how any company can screw this up. Metrokane has managed to do so. I bought the product having read the other reviews, so thankfully I was aware of the potential issue. I also saw Metrokane had responded to these reviews indicating simply contact us and we will take care of the issue. I did that and below is the response I received.

Hello Frank,

My first thought would be to return it to Amazon. This is not covered under warranty so I would either seek a replacement or a refund from Amazon.

Sincerely

What a waste of my time. I certainly won't be purchasing any more Metrokane products.

I like cold wine, so for me it is great no need to use ice cubes which turns the wine into water. I enjoy this weekly would recomend specialy with the summer around the corner

This is a clever product that does what it says. I purchased two and one had the "fit problem.". This is easily solved by manually spreading the metal piece and testing the fit gently before slamming in the ice holder. A bigger issue is that the ice holder doesn't reach the bottom of the flask, so that when you are on the bottom third of your wine it is no longer being well chilled. 3 stars as it s better and cooler that external chillers but needs design improvements.

I love this for when I want a bottle of white but forgot to chill it. I keep the metal part in the freezer, pop it in the carafe, and I'm ready! I did not notice anything the other customers mentioned about breaking the glass, mine seems to fit just fine.

My one complaint is that it is not great for 1/2 bottle of wine. It still works, but I find myself wishing the insert went lower into the glass to efficiently chill my wine for one.
