4.0 out of 5 stars A New Way to Remove Corks
I've wanted this sort of opener but would not pay the [$$] or more it would cost to get one, until this amazing offer appeared. My first couple of attempts to open were clumsy, but once I got the hang of it "normal" corks open without a hitch. I find that I still use the old style opener on faux corks that seem to be stressing the mechanism of this opener.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pass on this one, buy the Rabbit instead
I was extremely excited when I originally ordered this item, as I have had great luck with this type of opener in the past. In addition, the extras in the package make this an attractive item. However, even though the gears of the the corkscrew are made of metal, the handles and body seem to be made of a cheap, flexible plastic. The solid feel of the Rabbit is missing...

However, even though the gears of the the corkscrew are made of metal, the handles and body seem to be made of a cheap, flexible plastic. The solid feel of the Rabbit is missing in this model. In addition, about one of every 5 corks is not removed properly. The bottle stopper and drip ring are nice, but the foil remover is the worst I have ever used. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more money on a better quality opener...

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Hold Up, April 10, 2004
By A Customer
I knew this was a cheaper version of 'The Rabbit', but I still expected it to last a bit longer than it did. After about 25 uses, the corkscrew no longer works, although I sitll have a fantastic bottle stopper and drip ring. This product is not recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spend the extra $10 and get the Rabbit, November 29, 2004

We use our Houdini, and thought it was pretty swell, until we visited a friend who owned the Metrokane Rabbit corkscrew.
The Houdini works well for us, but the handles are a bit jiggly, and after a year of use, feels like each bottle may be the last one the Houdini opens before it breaks. The Rabbit seems much sturdier. If the Houdini is the Cadillac of corkscrews, then the Rabbit is the Hummer.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Want This One, October 9, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The short story: trying to find one more Christmas gift for fussy senior citizens last year, we stumbled on the Houdini in a bricks and mortar store. It was a hit! We had to have one, too! So, at after Christmas sales, we found only one in our valley, and, mistaking it for the brand we had purchased as the gift, we paid the price. We wuz robbed! We tried to live with the wrong one for several months, but it was more frustrating than those $3.99 corkscrews that can take out an eye if you aren't careful. We finally tossed it into the yard sale box and got this. We aren't looking back. All parts work, plus you get the spare corkscrew. Even those of us with no upper body strength can use this with ease, and you don't have to wear protective eyewear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product!!!!, June 8, 2011
I bought this product from QVC a few years ago and I LOVE it! I always had a hard time with those hand cork screws with them going in crooked and all and when I got this, I found it very easy to use once I got the hang of it!!! I use it all the time as well as have friends who borrow it! A VERY good investment. I am sure there are more expensive versions out there--this one made of a plastic material, but for my purposes, it has served me well and held up very good! I would very much recommend this product

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product that lasts, July 17, 2009

Pooh Bear (Lake Stevens, WA) - See all my reviews
I purchased this from Amazon back in 2003, and it has held up very well under regular use. The only part I have an issue with is the foil cutter - it was never very sharp to begin with, and now it is so dull that it's almost useless. Other than that, everything is still working extremely well - definitely worth the money!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Looks, Great Function., February 18, 2005
This review is from: Metrokane Houdini 6-Piece Wine Tool Kit, Blue (Kitchen)
After reading some of the other comments about the Houdini kit I must have received the best of the best because I have opened at least 50 bottles of wine with mine and it still works like the day it arrived. I am still on the first cork screw (they are replaceable) and it works like a champ.

Some of the other items that accompany the corkscrew are less than ideal but for function, this is the way to go & at a very decent price on the Friday Sales.
