This is a very nice album. I loved the music while watching the movie. I finally got it when I was in the CD store last night. I wish they could include "I can't stop loving you", and improve the recording a bit. Overall a very very nice album with mixed type of music.

I recommand it wholeheartly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack in the world, April 19, 2002

This review is from: Metropolis (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This music is the best I have ever listened too. The dixie land music makes this movie seem more realistic. Only two of the songs have words , but that is fine with me. My favorite tracks are 1,3,6,10,12 through 15,19,20. I know thats alot but all of them are excellent. They all or most of them have brass insuments. If you know anything about this movie it makes the songs even better. Song 20 by minako "mooki" Obata is such a wonderful song when I listen to it I don't notice anything else. Also yes this movie is originally from Japan But the songs with words are in English. I don't know why. Well hopes this hepls make you want to buy this CD. Hope you enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars For people who loved the movie and jazz fans alike, April 5, 2004
By
This review is from: Metropolis (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
There are two different types of tracks in this CD: there are those that sound like a movie soundtrack (in other words, you might need to have seen the movie to get the picture), and there are tracks that are downright great jazz. I played this at my home, and my father was tapping his feet to the opening theme.

This jazz is not the "smooth jazz" you hear in book stores. This is the kind of jazz you can imagine played at night clubs during the 30's, with musicians gathering together to play simply for the sake of music. From the opening "Metropolis" to the whacky "El Bombero" and the drumming "Run" this is music you can simply enjoy. If you haven't seen the movie, but you like jazz or the blues, then by all means buy this CD. Except for "St. James Infirmary" this is all original music, and the people who worked on it are gods of music themselves.

Buy it, pop it in, listen, and let the music take you over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Metropolis (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This CD is perfect for any of those out there who loved the movie "Metropolis" like i did. The soundtrack is wonderful giving in to that '30s type jazzy feel that goes along with the whole private detective era and the fast techno type music to give it that futuristic feel. Great combination of both. This CD is a fantastic buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My god...what can I say??, April 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Metropolis (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
From one of the more visually splendid anime of our times, the soundtrack is an eclectic mix of Dixieland, Jazz, and Country Western, mixed in with some weird variants of Techno, Trance and Electronic, the soundtrack to the movies leaves alot to ponder.

I kinda liked the song "El Bombero" when Laughton's illicit factory is burning down to the look of the underground folks and all of the robots "assemble" to put out the fire. It is presumably source music of some kind, featuring a clarinet, electronics, what sound like party-favors of some kind, a rickety drum part and oddly distorted voices chanting a nonsensical language. And the way the song mixes into the scence is truely one scence I'll never forget!!

Most of it is very elecletic in my mind, with moments of pure absurdity to very demanding beats only an accomplished ochestra could master.

I've put this score to the test, and after countless listens it has become one of my personal favorites...certainly the best I've bought so far this year. Perhaps it's just me. I'll admit: I'm a sucker for good Dixieland. When it comes to my tastes, this CD hit all the right buttons.

Might as well buy it not only for the absurdity, but also the quirkyness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Jazz, September 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Metropolis has some very nice jazz in it. As a swing dancer, it offers some inspiring music to dance both faster swing as well as slow blues to. I only wish that it wasn't interspersed with the background music that seems to be used to fill soundtrack CDs. The 'chase scene' type instrumentals don't stand on their own. They are only interesting in the context of the video.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved the movie get the sound track., January 18, 2011

With METROPOLIS, the music is as much part of the experience as the visuals. But be warned that the last song of the movie is not in this soundtrack. For that get a Ray Charles record... ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL AND STRANGE, June 24, 2003

This review is from: Metropolis (Original Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
THis is a superb soundtrack for a neat movie. The movie is loosely based on the 1926 sci-fi Metropolis (but with less of a moral point) and is supposedly some kind of breakthrough in anime cartoons. The music is strange because it is all American - jazz, ragtime, etc, but done by Japanese musicans and very authentic. Cool as heck!
