The vast majority of vacuums on the market today are poor substitutes for the "old school" models that gained fame in the 1950's and 60's. Mostly Plastic, cheaply made, and never doing the job good enough, most vacuums today do just enough to get by. This unit by Metropolitan not only pays homage to those legendary cannister vacs of the 1950's, but it actually cleans like them! This vac actually is powerful enough, to suck up, anything it touches, so it not only picks up the deepest dirt, and dust, but if you're not careful, it'll also devour socks, coins, paper, and other small items! This is the type of concentrated, sustained, sucking power, lacking in most contemporary units. With it's mulitiple filtration, quiet operation, and lightweight, this vacuum is a joy to operate. The need to buy filters and bags may be construed as a negative, but in reality, it's a reasonable trade-off, for the true "old school" cleaning power, this unit delivers.

This is by far the best vacuum I have owned, and I've had several Hoovers, an Electrolux and most recently an Oreck. This machine actually picks up dog hair! It's so nice to feel like you're really cleaning the floors, not simply running over them. I'd buy it again!

This is the best vacuum I have ever used! Don't be stupid like me and get just the basic model, though...make sure you get the power nozzle!!! I have two cats and a German shepherd...don't know what I was thinking. This vac is so powerful and amazingly lightweight. If you live in a house that is shaped like a rocket like I do...all stairs and no depth... you need this vacuum. I think it does a better job than my daughter's Dyson and the lightweight feature is the whip! I'm only 5' tall and find it nearly impossible to drag that heavy-butt upright up and down all these stairs, but the metro vac is totally portable and easy to use. Comes with an arsenal of attachments. I guess the only disadvantage is the fact that now I have to buy bags again instead of the dirtcup, but now no dust escapes when I empty it like it did with the big upright. Also, mine, at least, did not come with explicit instructionsregarding what was what, but it is not rocket science. Plus, they have an extremely helpful customer service department that you can find at their website online...[...] Did you know that you can use this thing as a powerful leaf and lawn blower as well? Yeah buddy! It looks cool, too...like something out of a Flash Gordon movie. It is all polished stainless steel and it is one of those 50's style bullet-shaped canisters. And the very best best best thing of all about this thing is that it is completely made in the USA!!!!!!!!! HOORAY!!! HOORAY!!!! I almost had a heart attack when I saw it. Their logo is "deliberately made better in the USA" Ain't that a fact? They are located in New York and are run by a family that's been in business since the 30's. You DO want this vac! You will not be sorry.

This is the vacuum I've needed forever. It is easy to pull around, light, and since it is a canister vac you can use it floor to ceiling with just a change of heads. Very powerful but not noisy, and has the Hepa filtration. On top of all that it is really nice looking in shiny silvery finish -- like a little rocket.

This is a great value as a canister vac, esp. if you do not need a power head. Do not be fooled if you read the reviews on Consumber Reports, which does not rank this vacuum highly. They are flat wrong. The vac is high quality, rugged, and very simple--and with GREAT suction (what else really counts?).

Also, do NOT fall for the Amazon tag of Purchase the Vacuume plus replacement bags (for MDV2-3). The are the incorrect bags; replacements can be purchased directly from Metropolitan.

This model of the vac performs great on floors. I have 2 dogs. I needed to upgrade to the electric power nozzle. A very costly upgrade. Almost $200. Look for a sale on the upgraded model. I would have saved $85.

The Metropolitan Vacuum could suck the stripes off a zebra....great product....and great customer relations from this family run business. I appreciated their humble apology when they apologized for AUTOSUPERMART's rude customer relations. (see below)

DO NOT pruchase from AUTOSUPERMART. I had to work with them via phone and have never been so poorly, disrespectfully , rudely treated in a sales/customer relationship ever. Give [...] a try.....it HAS to be better than AUTOSUPERMART. The help desk at Autosupermart was curt and only used one word answers and responses when I was trying to understand how to get a return lable. He hung up on me. I had to call them 4 times to get a return lable. When the Manager (Bill) learned of the poor communication I recieved at the help desk, HE TOO was out-of-line justifying the unprofessional, punk, rude kid (Jason) who worked the help desk. Bill didn't listen to the truth, but rather told me I was wrong and a liar. Never did Autosupermart us words like, Please, Im sorry , Thank you. I will not soon forget this stupifying expierience. I am still befuddled by these people. Again, Try [...].

This vacuum exceeded my expectations. It's very powerful and the filtration system works exceptionally well - no dust escapes the vacuum at all. My only reservation is I wish the dust bag was a little bigger, and I could have used one more extension wand to keep from bending over. In any case, I highly recommend this vacuum.

The vacuum is great, just like the old ones my parents had, however i was somewhat disturbed that amazon sent me a noticeably previously open product with a broken handle, Metro sent me a knew one within days of writing them.

I bought this vacuum after quite a bit of research. I've had several vacuums over my lifetime and all have lasted for several years. One of the reasons I bought this particular vacuum is that it is made in USA. I've bought a lot of tools which were made overseas and they don't last at all. This is a very powerful easy to manuever vacuum and it lives up to all my expectations except for one thing. The cord is very thin and cheesy. I would think a vacuum of this quality would come with a better cord. Although it seems plenty long enough, it's made of a thin vinyl material. Otherwise, I would highly recomend this vacuum.
