Book Description

March 4, 2008
This is the first team history of the New York Mets—or any other team—to be told through a lighthearted analysis of uniform numbers.

Ordinary club histories proceed year by year to give the big picture. Mets by the Numbers uses jersey numbers to tell the little stories—the ones the fans love—of the team and its players. This is a catalog of the more than 700 Mets who have played since 1962, but it is far from just a list of No. 18s and 41s. Mets by the Numbers celebrates the team's greatest players, critiques numbers that have failed to attract talent, and singles out particularly productive numbers, and numbers that had really big nights. With coverage of superstitions, prolific jersey-wearers, the ever-changing Mets uniform, and significant Mets numbers not associated with uniforms, this book is a fascinating alternative history of the Amazin's. 75 b/w photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dare I say,...this is the BEST METS BOOK EVER?, February 27, 2008
This review is from: Mets by the Numbers: A Complete Team History of the Amazin' Mets by Uniform Number (Paperback)
Yes. I dare. It's the best Mets book ever, and I've read them all (or at least most of them). I was drawn to it by the premise (history of the team by uniform numbers) and I was not disappointed.

If you are a true fan of the blue and orange, you owe it to yourself to pick up and read this gem. Written with great wit and insight and from a different perspective than all of the previously published team histories out there, this book is an absolute joy to read.

GO METS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect METS gift, April 14, 2008
By
This review is from: Mets by the Numbers: A Complete Team History of the Amazin' Mets by Uniform Number (Paperback)
People give me METS related gifts all the time, but this is the best thing I have ever received! I had so much fun reading this book and learning the history behind who wore what number and all the juicy details that came leaping off the page once you get past the numbers themselves.

If you like the METS, if you love the METS and certainly if you know anyone else who does, you have just found what to buy for mother's day, father's day, graduation or birthdays. There's no way that any METS fan would be less than enthralled with this spectacular book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet The Mets, By The Numbers., March 24, 2008
This review is from: Mets by the Numbers: A Complete Team History of the Amazin' Mets by Uniform Number (Paperback)
This is a must for any Mets fan, what makes this book so great is that it tells the story of the story behind the uniform number from Mookie #1 to Turk #99, a very fun and informative read.
