This review is from: Metz MZ 53302 SCA 3302 Minolta Adapter (Sync and TTL) (Electronics)
Fifteen years ago, I started with Metz 54 head unit, for an old analog photography days with Contax system. I then switched to digital, starting with Canon, to Nikon, to Canon, and now Sony/Minolta unit.
Different branded camera require a seemingly over-priced newer flash unit, but with Metz system, just switching an adapter does a job. I wouldn't get a new ones paying list price, but always paid less than half of list price for a fully functional used unit. Bogen USA will always replace the adapter, free of charge, with a newer one if newer firmware is introduced. Buy a well made German unit like Metz; this will be the last flash you'll ever buy. I noticed that many complaints are registered on internet forums, with regard to performance of Metz unit, but I have NO complaint at all with this system. First, a flash photograph is not my favorite menu, but when required for flash photography, it does its job. Use a third-party bouncer, it does even better. I'd much rather spend money on a studio rental with full set of lighting, if necessary, than get a flash unit that always does medicore job, for my taste. I know Nikon has its reputation with 3D Matrix, and everyone else with mee-too more complex system; but when I compare the prints using Metz vs Nikon head unit, I just don't see a difference to justify another $500 for a flash unit, not knowing whether Nikon brand can survive another five years from now. |
