Magical & Captivating !,
By Mary Alice "Moonflower" (Cornwall England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mewingham Manor: Observations on a Curious New Species (Hardcover)
This book has so proudly found a home here in Cornwall with us. Cornwall, the land of fairies, where real fairies actually live and it is fantastic to see in print, the history of Mewing Manor and it's adorable residents !
This book through it's descriptive details and amazing artwork, captures one's heart and soul and sinks you back into time, to the days when children once believed that fairies were real and one's imagination would so easily venture into that magical world ! This book will bring back to it's readers ( young and old ), a world that isn't so lost or forgotten after all !

Mewingham Manor,

This review is from: Mewingham Manor: Observations on a Curious New Species (Hardcover)
Authored by Laura Von Stetina, Mewingham Manor is a charming and enchanting book that catapults you into the 18th Century. Written with style and grace to reflect that time period, you enter into Edwina Von Stetina's private journal that centers on the inherited estate left to her by her sea-faring Uncle Kat. Follow the adventures of Edwina as she discovers winged species of fantasy creatures known as Flittens ( Flittens dwell in places you would never dream of looking!) You will also meet the miniscule flying mice who delight in making whimsical sculptures out of sugar cubes, and who hide in the holes made in swiss cheese. Be sure to have a cat to cuddle in your lap, and perhaps a young child nearby who can share in the giggles as you read this fanciful book out loud. This is a book that belongs in anyone's library, and one to cherish through the ages, for the imagination displayed in the writing and the illustrations within these pages is timeless and reaches the child within all of us!

A delightful fantasy picture book,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mewingham Manor: Observations on a Curious New Species (Hardcover)
Capably written and wonderfully illustrated by Edwina Von Stetina, Mewingham Manor: Observations On A Curious New Species is a delightful fantasy picture book showcasing the "natural history" and life cycle of a delightful imaginary species of butterfly-winged cats. Warm color illustrations and gentle, memorable text bring these remarkable flying kittens to life. Mewingham Manor is highly recommended and would make an impressive Memorial Fund acquisition choice for any community library collection.

Wow! Never seen anything like this!,
This review is from: Mewingham Manor: Observations on a Curious New Species (Hardcover)
***Note that the cover of the book appears faded on this website, but is actually beautifully bright! Throughout the book the art is so spectacular that my 2 girls (ages 5 and 7) and I looked through it slowly 3 times before we could even get to reading the story! We were mesmerized by the detail and creativity of the illustrations. Once we finally settled in to read, we discovered a precious and enchanting tale to go along with the appreciated pictures.
I highly recommend this book, especially as a gift. As a mother, I can tell you that a beautiful book is always appreciated at birthdays or Christmas and stays around a lot longer than most toys. It is a perfect keepsake because of the quality of the actual book binding as well as the content. I feel certain that my kids will want to pass this on to their own children one day.

I first found this book at the library and did not want to return it. The story transends age limits. It's a delight for all ages. But the artwork is the true joy of reading the book. I bought this book for my great niece who is a cat person and I plan on getting a copy for myself.
