When I read that this book was a reprint I expected a lot of romantic fluff. What this book does offer is an excellent overview of the debacle that was Maximilians Mexican adventure. The author manages to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. You will find yourself pulling for Maximilian despite already knowing the outcome. This is history as it should be written , informative , engaging and concise. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
