This review is from: Mexican Expressions/Expresiones Mexicanas: The Spice of a People/El Sabor De UN Pueblo (Hardcover)
I was looking for a book with Mexican idioms/sayings for my Dad, who grew up in Zacatecas. He LOVED this. This book had lots of expressions he was familiar with as well as new ones. The authors do a great job of setting sayings up by category. Each saying is then presented in Spanish, translated literally into English and then "figuratively" into English so that you can know the deeper meanings of each one. Example: "No metas la cuchara." Literally: Don't put in your spoon. Figuratively: Stay out of it/Don't get involved.
Overall, a very useful and entertaining reference. |
