Book Description

April 30, 2006
Description in Spanish: En México.

This is obviously not a serious historical book BUT can make Mexicans think seriously about patriotism and politics in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy Humorous and Entertaining Book, August 23, 2010

This review is from: Mexico lo que todo ciudadano quisiera (no) saber de su patria (Paperback)
If you have read and thoroughly enjoyed "America: The Book", then this book is for you. Dresser and Volpi became inspired with that book and decided to create a similar one relating to Mexico. It is not meant to "brush up" on Mexican history, rather satire past events and current politics.
Because of the extensive cultural references, It is recommended for someone who knows Spanish pretty well and is up-to-date on current affairs.
It's filled with diagrams, pictures, humorous passages, and pop-cultural icons of Mexican people. I read and and could not let it down.
Overall, great book for those who enjoyed similar humor as "America: the Book" and is fluent in Spanish

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, interesting..loved it, May 26, 2010

As someone who knows and lives in my daily life all the little things that make Mexico a great and a difficult country, I found really interesting and fun to read all the facts that we have learnt all these years with a fun and critic twist thant makes us reflect about our history, our culture, our lives, and also think about our actions that contribute to all the flaws that we have as mexicans.

I highly recomend it for anyone who wants to get to know more of Mexico with an acid and at the same time light touch. Great work of Jorge Volpi and Denise Dresser
