5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic, delicious, concise and easy to follow.
These recipes flood my mind with memories of my childhood. My wife can't cook like my mother, but the book is so easy to follow that her food even tastes like my mothers. Great book.

I admire the respect and curiosity for Hungarian cuisine because it is fantastic. It's a nice try to explore other nations' heritage, but when you write a book about it, make sure that the facts are right. I was born in Hungary, and I've lived there for 20 years, so I know how most of the dishes in this book taste like and what goes in them. Some ingredients are missing...

My dad was Hungarian, and the recipes I have from my grandmother are the same as those in this book. I was thrilled to find a few recipes in the book that I didn't already have.

I cooked them and was amazed to find they tasted exactly right, just like grandma used to make - delicious!

The best thing about it is the tips that June Meyer includes about how to make the recipe come out right. It's just like having a real Hungarian home-cooking expert at your elbow, and don't assume you know how to do everything.

Highly recommended.

Growing up I spent alot of time with my Hungarian Grandparents. Grandma was a great cook; paprikas, pancakes, pastries, you name it - country Hungarian food at its finest. June Meyer's book has some great recipes that remind me of a different time; Meyer doesn't cut out the lard, salt or butter either - these are authentic recipes in all of there high fat and sodium glory. Old school real Hungarian.

The recipes in here are delicious thus far. They consist of simple ingredients and teh instructions also contain tips to ensure it comes out great. The binding is cheap and I am concerned the pages will not hold up in the kitchen.

I am in the process of preparing all the recipes in Ms Meyer's wonderful book. My wife is Hungarian, and everytime I prepare a new dish; she tells me the smells in the house remind her of her childhood. I love this book. Good Job!

I do not like cooking but I like food. Though I am not Hungarian, this cookbook offers recipes for the dishes I grew up with in the Balkans. I am proud of myself now :) I can actually make a delicious meal. June Meyer you're a blessing!!!!!!! My kids are getting good food now.

The food tastes straight out of the Hungarian countryside (according to my mother-in-law who grew up there).

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich full flavor, minimal ingredients, easy to produce, January 6, 2009

Fantastically flavorful recipes with heartwarming stories. All of the ingredients are easily available at the regular grocery store. If you believe great dishes do not have to have a long list of ingredients, this book is for you. I was truly astounded at the rich and deep flavor produced by so few ingredients! I tried some things out on my in-laws and their friends, who are immigrants directly from Hungary, and they certified the recipes authentic! I can now reproduce those tasty comforting foods I enjoyed in Europe: egg/farina/spaetzle, plum dumplings, fried bread, cucumber salad, etc. As for the calories and such, I wouldn't skimp or substitute anything - just watch the portions and don't indulge everyday. This one is a keeper.

A wonderful book....familiar recipes from my childhood written down. These "Germans in Hungary" have a wonderful history and culture which I have only lately come to fully understand and appreciate. This book is a special treasure from "the Old Country" and I am so happy June Meyer wrote it and shared it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hungarian Heritage - Grandma's Cooking, January 16, 2008
This review is from: June Meyer's Authentic Hungarian Heirloom Recipes (Spiral-bound)
The recipes in this cookbook take me back to the days of my grandmother's country kitchen, the smells & flavor's of her Hungarian cooking. She came to the USA from Hungary as a young bride. I can remember her dishes were full of flavor and prepared farm fresh. When we would ask for a recipe she would answer with a a few of those and a bit of that. Nothing was written down. This cookbook is a welcomed addition to my collection. The recipes are authentic and taste as I remember them as a young boy spending my summers on the farm.
