Foundation only,
By Nero (Sydney, Australia.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mike Meyers' MCSE for Windows (R) 2000 Professional Certification Passport (Paperback)
On the surface everything seems ok. The book seems to cover 70-210 objectives and I actually learnt some new things here and there. But under the surface it is a different story. Mike Myers fails to realise that Microsoft are constantly reviewing and changing their exam questions and structure. He makes presumptions like "a good 20% of the questions from the professional...tests covered" permissions and "When you are passing the practise questions, you're ready to take the exam". Let me just say that I did the exam the other day and the questions on it were far more complex than this book leads them on to be. This book is a foundation but it fails to grapple with the deeper issues like .msi and .mst files with windows installer and OU and GPO within group policy. Another issue I noticed was that there were errors within the questions and answers. For instance chp 2 question 5. This book is good for a foundation but don't expect to pass the exam with this book as a primary source. I myself studied for 3 weeks using this book and Microsoft's readiness review plus sample practise tests you find on the Internet. I thought I was well prepared. But during the actual exam you start to realise that what you thought you knew from this book means nothing when wading through long paragraph questions, which zap your mental energy and bit by bit eat up the available time. I expected and Mike Myers expects easy one-two line questions and single paragraph questions. But expect long questions, which eat up the clock. In the end I passed. what saved me was remembering certain practise questions from various sites, NOT THIS BOOK. If you really want to do well in this exam study w2k server as well, and do as many prac tests as you can. Otherwise you will scrape through like I did.

Not as good as A+ or Network+,
By "dug_e" (Denver, CO) - See all my reviews

I purchased the Mike Meyers A+ certfication book (hardbound)which is *very* thorough, I felt the Network+ Passport book was pretty good also. This book is a different kettle of fish... The book has disappointed me on repeated occasions. I to get this book to press. After reading a chapter, I find that I also found a number of errors on the practice exam, I I like the author's humor, but I find myself not feeling very experience. I ordered the Microsoft MCSE kit as a supplement, If I used this as my only preparation guide, I would not

Great Review Book for MCSE 70-210,
By Charles Menbeck (Chicago, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mike Meyers' MCSE for Windows (R) 2000 Professional Certification Passport (Paperback)
An excellent book to review all the major areas of coverage on the exam. Will not substitute for an in depth textbook. Learned all the fine points from the larger books but needed a scaled down version to bring it all back together. I had been real deep in the "trees" and now I needed to see "the forest" and that's what this book does beautifully I might add. Book is very well organized with the idea of getting through to the reader. Author's writing style is great and very readable for this type of knowledge. Used this with another highly recommended book, the MCSE 70-210 Readiness Review (Exam Review book) by Microsoft which is also a must read. Just passed the exam. Thanks Brian Culp. You filled in the many missing cracks that my instructors missed to prepare me for this exam.
