4.0 out of 5 stars real artistry, June 23, 2001
This review is from: Mezzamorphis (Audio CD)
Delirious? is showing signs of true greatness...all of their albums are so different...yet they are all so great that it becomes harder to pick a favorite with each new release.

I really like the whole effect of "Mezzamorphis." It has great songs--some of which could be great singles (like those on their earlier album "King of Fools"). At the same time it forms a rather unified whole (but is not as integrated as their later album "Glo").

Some highlights of the disc for me are the tracks: "Mezzanine Floor"; "I will follow"; "Blindfold"; and "Jesus Blood." I do not care as much for the remix of "Deeper" as I do for the original (on "King of Fools").

I have a big problem with music that labels itself as "Christian." The categorization, besides being a bit presumptuous, separates true Christian artists off into a little ghetto where they are limited to preaching to a choir of the already convinced when they should be taking the message out into the larger world. Delirious? has fought nobly to take their message beyond this ghetto...unfortunately, they are still suffering from the "Christian Music" label on this side of the Atlantic (they've had greater success in their homeland)...Yet Delirious? is not like the typical drivel that all too often gets cast into the "Christian Music" bin...there is real artistry here.

I recommend this disc highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new direction, same journey, December 4, 1999
By
Iain Jones (Oxford England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mezzamorphis (Audio CD)
When Delirious moved off from the back of Cutting Edge 4, they knew they where on a journey with God and thier instruments into the unknown (for the d:guys anyway). King of Fools was the album that all who hear love, live it's out of this world. People have moaned at Mezzamorphis for not being as worship focused as previous material. So? Sure you can't lift losts of the songs and take them into a church service, but that's not the point. If the singles off the album had the air play, and publicity they deserve, intead of being shunned because Delirious are unashamedly Christians, the album would be huge. Buy, listen again and again (it's worth it), then see them live and you'll know the reason why the guys put out Mezzamorphis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mezza, December 8, 1999
This review is from: Mezzamorphis (Audio CD)
A lot of people are bothered by some of the lyrics to 'It's Ok' but read the liner notes, the guys explain it. I love everything d: does, and think that Mezza rocks, lyricly, musicly... everything. I also love this cos it show that praise doesn't have to be a bunch of middle-aged women sharing there faith stories and singing 'Lord I Lift Your Name On High'. Delirious is an awesome bunch of guys with a desire to serve God wholeheartedly. I highly recommend this album and their previous releases- King Of Fools and Cutting Edge. Yeah, their sond has sort of changed, but they're still the same guys singing and playing for God.
