Book Description

September 1991
MG sports cars are regarded always with affection by those who drive them, and with respect by those who know anything about automotive history. Author F. Wilson McComb was, for more than a decade, part of the team who built the marvellous postwar MGs which won the company's reputation for building stylish models that promised, and delivered, "Safety Fast"; subsequently it took the author more than ten years to write this definitive history... universally admired as the best that has been written on MG. Jonathan Wood brings the story up-to-date, analyzing the resurgence of the marque as part of the Rover Group.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The ... 56 page booklet is loaded with wonderful illustrations--80 in all--and they are reproduced in wonderful detail and in stunning quality color printing. The pictures include the iconic pre World War II illustrations by Frederick Gordon Crosby and Harold Connelly, who between them did ...many of the wonderful print ads for Cecil Kimber's MG company, and the many post war ads that appeared in UK and US magazines ... For anyone who wants a clear, concise digest of the history of MG, buying MG by Jonathan Wood is an excellent investment." --Log Book (Autumn 2008) --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recognized as THE one-volume history of MG, May 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mg (Hardcover)
F. Wilson McComb's book is probably the best single work on the MG Car Company, Ltd. He covers in exhaustive but very readable detail the history of MGs, from Old Number One to nearly the last MGBs. McComb covers the racing efforts, from British hillclimbs to perhaps MG's greatest outright win at the Nurburgring in 1967. Copious photographs illustrate the work and the appendix provides a wealth of technical detail on each MG ever produced. A tremendous effort and a very rewarding book.

After owning an MG for over 15 years, and reading what I thought was everything I could find, this new version of the book is everything I expected. The writing is very informative, and the pics in the book are most enjoyable. I think this book is a must have for the MG enthusiast.
