WARNING : this game is hard ! Check the forum for strategy tips :

You are an astronaut awaking from cryonics not in the solar system, but... out there... in a far and unknown place of the galaxy. In Out There, you will have to survive, tinkering your ship with what you can gather drifting in the void, and spot garden planets to refill your oxygen supply.

Space is an hostile place ; dangerous and mysterious adventures will mark each step of your travel. You will not only meet intelligent species that won’t care about you, but also deal with ancient powers linked to your destiny and the fate of mankind itself.

Survival and understanding of what is really at stake in the galaxy is the core of what Out There has to offer.

Music by award-winning composer Siddhartha Barnhoorn (Antichamber, The Stanley Parable)

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Scifi Game May 15, 2014

I'm excited to play a game free of in app purchases and ads and all the nasty things that shady developers love to shove in their games these days. Instead, this game is fun, addictive, challenging, creative, etc. How did that become unexpected in games these days!?!

So, to a potential buyer... First of all, this game is difficult and unforgiving. Eventually you'll learn how you're supposed to play it but circumstances will appear where you are killed simply by bad luck. You'll lose the technology to produce a hydrogen probe then find yours damaged and be unable to extract fuel. Try again. You'll get stranded in portions of the galaxy with a low level ship where you can't jump to any stars to escape. Try again. But this is all part of life as a human who is inexplicably thrown into a strange side of the galaxy. It's a dangerous way to live your life!

But once you get past the difficulty of the game there's a lot to experience. Maybe think of this as a modern day oregon trail minus the dysentery. Sometimes things are difficult for no reason but there are steps you can take to make your trip more survivable.

There are three endings to the game of varying difficulties. I've played the game quite a bit (to the detriment of my life, maybe) and still haven't managed to finish the most difficult ending.

So, all in all, maybe this game isn't for everybody. It can be difficult and frustrating and smite you for no reason. But for me, it's just about perfect. I'd recommend anyone who was interested buy a copy and try it out.

I do have two suggestions, though:
- More random events, after playing the game a few times you start to run into the random events and learn the "correct" answers.
- Spotted some typos : P

I hope to see future releases from this developer!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like to suffer... June 2, 2014

You won't win- maybe ever. Plan on losing. A lot.

You start with a basic ship with limited storage capacity. You journey through space, visiting planets while consuming fuel, oxygen, and taking damage to your hull. You may discover technology, allowing for new components to be built (with collected materials), making your ship more efficient. However, the more you build, the less storage space you have to hold valuable fuel and materials you can collect. It's a delicate balancing act to fashion a ship that can survive the rigors of intergalactic space travel while not running out of precious fuel or oxygen. Or blowing up.

There is a lot to explore- and since each time you start a new game everything is different- the MANY times you restart the game stay relatively fresh. The difficulty level of this game can be frustrating at times, but it is also one of the best features- in space, there is no one to hold your hand and tell you everything is going to be alright.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's about the journey, not the destination May 28, 2014

Reminds me of FTL, a similarly themed space travel rogue-like. And just like with FTL, I am terrible at Out There but can't stop playing it. Runs beautifully on my 7" tablet and is one of the few games that I keep the music un-muted. I'm not sure if I'll ever make it to the end of the game, but I'm sure I'll keep trying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, introspective, fun. May 28, 2014

What a great game! After two play throughs I got to one of what I assume to be many "ends". Along the way I found various abandoned spaceships to inhabit, alien races whose language I slowly pieced together, celebrated a birthday, and feared for my life.

My girlfriend also enjoyed playing with me. She would help me choose which systems to fly to and whether or not I should trust alien races. All around a great game for four dollars which includes lots of replay value and no freemium BS found in so many other apps.I hastily recommend this game!

If you've ever liked StarTrek Voyager, you will feel right a home with this game. It is a game based in a randomly generated universe, where you wake up lost in space. The ship you are in has several basic components relative to sub-light travel and an alien device that allows you to travel faster then light to other star systems. You also have a limited amount of resources to survive on. The technology and resources are stored in your ships cargo hold, which is modular by design and has only a limited amount of slots. Meaning each slot can only hold 20 units of resources or one unit of technology. Upgrades for technology can be learned by encountering anomalies, alian cultures, or abandoned spacecraft. Upgrades will only work if you place the upgrade module adjunct to the module being upgraded. The upgraded technology module should then have a glowing line with an arrow apear around it.
You can also learn new technology using the same methods of discovery. New technology and upgraded technology is all crafted using resources you have acquired. Crafting is based off of a simple system. There are two requirements to crat something. 1. You must have learned the technology. 2. You must have the resources to build it. Tapping an empty module in the ship will bring up the crafting menu where you can then simply tap 'craft' to craft a technology. Once technology is crafted in an empty module, you can not move it unlike resources which can be moved.
Traveling through space, landing on planets, and collecting resources will almost always cost some fuel and oxygen. The Rare exception being you pass through an area of space that doesn't require your ship to use fuel or you land on a panet that has an oxygen based atmosphere.
