Joaquin Salvador Lavado (Argentina,1932), mas conocido como Quino, es uno de los mas importantes humoristas graficos y creador de historietas. Su obra mas famosa es la tira comica Mafalda (publicada originalmente entre 1964 y 1973). Le llamaban Quino desde pequeno para distinguirle de su tio, el ilustrador Joaquin Tejon, que fue quien desperto su vocacion de dibujante. El humor de Quino es tipicamente acido e incluso cinico, ahondando con frecuencia en la miseria y el absurdo de la condicion humana, sin limites de clase. No duda asi en usar sus vinetas para enviar mensajes de contenido social a sus lectores. La optica de Quino es probablemente debida a las vicisitudes de Argentina en los ultimos cuarenta anos. Su mezcla de pesimismo y humanismo es posiblemente una de las principales razones de su gran exito en toda Latinoamerica.

In latin America, Quino is loved by millions for his unforgetable strip called Mafalda. Besides that, and of better quality, are his cartoon strips published in newspapers and magazines. With a simple line draw, and mostly without words, he tells stories with a puchline that makes you laugh, makes you sad, and makes you wonder at the same time. They are about politics, relationships, power play, sociology, and art in a surrealistic and sharp wit. You will enjoy these strips over and over, and they age like good wine, the more you know about society and life, the more you will ponder them.
