Here's the Scoop On This Perfect Album:,
By "paradise_found" (Musicland, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mi Reflejo (Audio CD)
It took me a few weeks and a lot of research to finally figue it out, but I've got the translations and meanings to all the beautiful, touching songs in my hand right now. I just want to say that all the songs do sound rather similar at first. That's exactly why, no matter how hard it may seem, you have to make it all the way through the songs. You get a better appreciation of the sound if you get to hear the entire song. The songs (Uh, and their translations) are as follows:1. Genio Atrapado(Trapped Genie) Everyone knows this song in English as being "Genie In a Bottle" but it takes on a new, cleaner meaning here. Same tune, though. 2. Falsas Esperanzas (False Hopes) My favorite song on the album. Christina tells an admirer to back off and stop giving her false hopefulness. She's not a doll or a puppet on a string, so he might as well just quit while he's ahead. 3. El Beso Del Final (The Final Kiss) Chris knows somethin' is up here. Her boy's kissing her differently and acting distant, vague and strange. It's slower and mellow, but loaded with emotion in her rich voice. 4. Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti (Then I Remember You) Christina's life is perfect, then she starts to think about that previous lover and falls right back into self pity and a feeling of misery. It will honestly move you to tears. 5. Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tu) (Come With Me {Only You}) The Spanish version of "Come On Over (All I Wanna Do)" Note: This is the original version en espanol, it is not the video/radio version. 6. Si No Te Hubiera Conocido (If I Hadn't Met You) An emotional duet with Luis Fonsi. They bat touching things back and forth like how Luis brought light to Chris's dark world and how Christina made everything warm and fuzzy for Luis. The chorus is particularly poignant:(Roughly) "Nothing would have made sense if I hadn't met you." 7. Contigo En La Distancia (With You In The Distance) Christina soulfully expresses that she can't be separated from her love, that she must be with him forever. I think the title should have been "You're a part of my soul" instead of "With You In The Distance" but, regardless, it's still very beautiful. 8. Cuando No Es Contigo (When I'm Not With You) This is one heck of a long tune! It seems to play forever, but it's still enjoyable. Christina simply says that she feels dead without her man and that he is her treasure, stuff like that. She just repeats it over and over and over and over and, well, you get the idea. Possibly the worst song here. 9. Por Siempre Tu (Forever You) This is a version of "I Turn To You" it has the same meaning and tune, but very pleasant to listen to, overall. 10. Una Mujer (A Woman) "What a Girl Wants" isn't easily translated to Spanish and this perhaps has the most confusing meanings, but overall still fun to sing and dance to. There's this incredible high note in the climax of the song unlike anything you've ever heard. It totally makes up for the poor translation. 11. Mi Reflejo "Reflection" same meaning, still powerful, still a favorite. As you can see, this CD is an absolute must. I suggest that if you have some free time one weekend, try translating the songs yourself. It gets a little hairy at times, but with a Spanish/ English dictionary, a notebook, and nerves of steel, you can make it! You'll have a much greater appreciation of the songs if you do this. I hope I helped with your decision to BUY THIS GREAT CD!!!

Props to the Senorita!,

Christina Aguilera, the pop superstar from such hits "Genie in a Bottle" and "Come on Over", has taken her talent back to her Ecuadorian roots for her first Spanish album. While the newer Spanish versions of some of her English songs may sound a bit weird, I still think they sound wonderful. In fact, I love the Spanish versions of Reflection (Mi Reflejo) and I Turn To You (Por Siempre Tu). The best song on the album is Pero Mi Acuerdo De Ti, which you will not find on her debut album. The musicality is gorgeous and the lyrics (including the translation) are just incredible. It's amazing what this girl can do with her talent...and to take it back to her Hispanic heritage...I just have to give my props to this Senorita!

beautiful, matured voice ...,

This is an amazing CD. Even though I don't understand very much of the whole album, the music is a universal language. Christina Aguilera's voice and image has matured by leaps and bounds since those days of Christina's debut English album, and it has matured for the better. The album includes five pretty cool translations of hits from her past, and six brand new jaw dropping Spanish songs. GENIO ATRAPADO: "Genio Atrapado" is simply a translation of "Genie In A Bottle," but using the very little Spanish I know, I can tell that the meanings of the words have been changed. Instead of "I'm a genie in a bottle baby, gotta rub me the right way, honey," the new line translated to English is "I'm a trapped genie, free me with sincere love." This proves how much Christina Aguilera has matured over the past year. Plus, the song seems to flow better in Spanish than English. The "Genio Atrapado" video is excellent. (10/10) FALSAS ESPERANZAS: "Falsas Esperanzas" is an exciting, butt-shaking salsa type song about getting the truth from people you care about. The Latin instrumentals are not cliched, but they are true to the roots. During the chorus you may hear a noise that may seem like editing on Christina's voice, but that is just the sound you hear when there is PERFECT harmonizing going on. (10/10) EL BESO DEL FINAL: The song starts off with a beautiful Spanish guitar solo and beautiful humming from Christina. "El Beso Del Final" means "The Final Kiss" in English, and I think Christina sings, "No quiero imaginar el beso del final" which means "I don't want to imagine our final kiss." Even though the language is fuzzy to me, the listeners can realize what the song is trying to convey through the passion in Christina's voice. (10/10) PERO ME ACUERDO DE TI: Wow! "Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti" is definitely one of my favorites of the album. I have no idea what the words mean, but you can hear the sadness in Christina Aguilera's voice during the choruses. I can't stop listening to this one. (10/10) VEN CONMIGO (SOLAMENTE TU): Like the English debut album version of "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)", the song is peppy and sparkly and exploding bubbly energy. Even though I enjoy the remixed version, "Come On Over Baby", I'm glad that Christina decided to translate the old version because I don't think the Latin community would appreciate Christina saying "No solamente quiero saber de tu sexualidad" in a sexy voice. (10/10) SI NO TE HUBIERA CONOCIDO: Oh, here it is! This is the best song on the album by a mile! Christina is doing a duet with Latin singing sensation Luis Fonsi, who is a talented man with a great voice. There is just something about this song that just makes it so perfect. I especially like the passage that leads into the chorus and the climax of the song when the two singers go into full volume. I highly recommend this song to anyone! Fantastic music! (10/10) CONTIGO EN LA DISTANCIA: This is Christina's choice song on the album, and it comes close to my favorite on the album. The guitar startup music is impossible to describe. What word is there to explain the beauty of Spanish guitar? I know this sounds weird, but the only word I can think of is "ironic." Unlike many young artists, Christina does not butcher a classic, beloved, traditional song such as this. (10/10) SI NO ES CONTIGO: I'm glad to have another danceable Spanish song instead of just all ballads. The sound effects are excellent in this song, and the Latin backup singers bring an even more Latin feel to it. (10/10) POR SIEMPRE TU: I've always loved this song either in English, Spanish, or any other language. Christina looks beautiful in the video. (10/10) UNA MUJER: This is the translation to "What A Girl Wants." I'm a huge fan of the English version, but for some reason, the translation does not exactly work, but nothing could really ruin such a strong song. (9/10) MI REFLEJO: "Mi Reflejo," also known as "Reflection," is a great song especially for young people searching for identity. It's a good thing that Christina shares this song with the Hispanic world. I just wish that the instrumentals were changed a little bit, but that's okay. (10/10) Well, I hope this review was helpful. (I know it was long.) If you're having trouble finding the enhanced portion of this CD when you put it into your computer, don't fret. You have to open up "My Computer" and click on "christinacd."

Mi Reflejo is a Grammy-winning-must-have latin hit!,

This review is from: Mi Reflejo (Audio CD)
Christina's Debut spanish album surpased expectations and sold millions of copies in its first months. It was #1 latin cd on the billboard charts for more than 11 weeks. It earned a latin grammy even when it was running against latin superstars like Paulina Rubio and Thalia.Mi Reflejo includes five translations from Christina's debut album (Reflection, Genie in a bottle, What a girl wants, Come on over, I turn to you) And also six completely new songs. Six of the eleven tracks are ballads, 2 have a latin taste to them and three are pop. Christina released five videos for this album. Its one of my favorite albums and I highly reccomend it to people all ages. (believe me, you will enjoy this album even if you cant understand the language)

This cd came out today and the first thing I did was to go and buy it. I am from Puerto Rico and my native language is spanish, so I can really appreciate the lyrics. All songs are great. She used a lot af latin musical influences mixed with R&B, U.S. pop and really good slow latin ballads and "boleros". My favorite song is "Falsas Esperanzas". It has a great latin beat with great musical and vocal arrangements. Another great songs are "El Beso del Final" and "Si No Te Hubiera Conoido", a beautiful ballad that Christina sings with puertorrican singer Luis Fonsi. I am very happy that Ms. Aguilera recognizes her latin roots and was able to make a great spanish production. In "Mi Reflejo" it is clearly shown that the girl SINGS, not as other people around (you know who I am talking about), so please don't clasify her as part of the teen pop phenomenom or the latin explosion. She has an unique style and talent, and she can't be compared to anybody else.

Soulful Latin Music,

Not only does she propel her vocal talents into english but as well in spanish, this 11-track album expresses Christina's Ecuadorian roots of her fahers side. Each song has it's own special touch of music, lyrics, and emotions. If you enjoy listening to ballads then this is the album for you, mostly because there are about 6 ballads and 5 dance songs, it's all there from the pop-dance groove of Ven Conmigo to the sweet latin ballad of Contigo En La Distancia. If you wanna get away from bubblegum pop then get this album. Her spanish LP earned her a Latin Grammy for Best Latin Album and stayed at #1 for 8 weeks on the Latin Hot 100 Album BillBoard Chart.

"Mi Reflejo" shows latin side.....,
This review is from: Mi Reflejo (Audio CD)
first of all i wanna say that this is a great album. i've listened to it 100+ times. props to christina for her voice, you can really tell she has grown as a singer since "christina aguilera". in "mi reflejo" she shows us her latin side and her passion for part of her culture (at least if she is sincere when she says that). at first i was skeptical (like many i imagine) when i heard she was doing a spanish lp. but when i first heard "pero me acuerdo de ti" i knew i had to get more. i admit i got the songs online and didnt buy the actual album, but same difference right? i LOVE practically every song on the album. only ones i really dont care much for are "genio atrapado" and "una mujer" (of course her english translations whic i'll get to later.) and even in those i loved hearing how much her voice has matured since when she first recorded them. in "una mujer" i love listening to her hit those high notes in her falsetto singing.ok, now to all the people that said she isn't latin or anything like that. ya'll need to recognize that not every latin person looks like it. my mom was born and raised in mexico and is 100% mexican and everyone thinks im half white. some of my friends look whiter then my actualy white friends too. so you can't say she's not latin just because she gots blonde hair and blue eyes. and please remember she is HALF ecuadorian (sp???). and her pronounciation of the spanish language is impressive for not being fluent, but then again it is easier to sing in spanish than to talk in spanish. now the only reason i gave the cd 4 stars instead of 5 are the english translated songs. im sorry but the album would have been soooooooo----> much better without them. i know it was most likely some kind of marketin hook but really, it would have been so much better artistically without them. by no means am i saying i dont like them. i actually like "mi reflejo" and "por siempre tu". i really like the vocals on those songs and you can tell her maturity as a singer when you hear her hit those higher notes very easily. "ven conmigo" is on the boarderline on my liking, but its not terrible, in fact many people like it. so really this is a great cd and i really reccomend you buy it. you really get your money's worth. if you're a fan of latin music then you'll love this cd. it gots great songs like "cuando no es contigo" and "falsas esperanzas" that are great salsa songs. and "contigo en la distancia" is a classic spanish song that has been recorded my many other artists. and "el beso del final" sounds great with the spanish guitar/or acustic i'm not sure, a definte latin ballad feel to it. and "pero me acuerdo de ti" is just unbeleveable. i LOVE that song and listen to it every night when i go to sleep.i think that's about it with the songs. and i read that christina is planning on doing another latin album in the future. all i gotta say is that if she puts another english translated song on it, i will hit her so hard she'll be as dumb as britney. peace out-

Just One Word.......WOW !!,

Well, being the devoted Britney fan that I am, I have been sitting on the fence over Christina and who I actually like best. I mean, Britney's 'Oops, I Did It Again' CD is a fantastic follow up to her smash debut....and I must say, much better...but after hearing this new one from Christina, there's no doubt in my mind that this girl can SING !! Actually, she can sing circles around Britney....but Christina's sound is much more soul-packed, room-shaking R & B. She is amazing !! Her hits that she sings in Spanish take on a whole new meaning...and her voice has really developed even more, and she hits ranges and notes that rival if not surpass the best in the business. I have bought many Spanish language follow-up CD's, but this one takes the grand prize, hands down!! Even if you have her debut CD, like I do, get this one also....you won't regret it....and I am sure you will agree that Christina is well on her way to being a Latina Diva !! You go girl !!!

Great voice, but concept is bothersome...,

I think Christina has a terrific voice, I mean, she sounds better than Mariah Carey did when she was good. This is not a bad CD, and it's not a great CD. It's difficult to explain. The way I feel about it is this: I don't feel that Christina 'feels' what she is singing when she sings in Spanish. Anyone can enunciate Spanish. It's not a difficult language, and yes, Christina's voice is technically great, but it's nothing for her to sing some Spanish lyrics. I just don't feel any emotion in it as she sings. She clearly doesn't understand what she's singing. She can just pronounce the words and sing it beautifully, but there's nothing behind it. Selena was a singer who didn't know Spanish, but you felt the emotion in her words when she sang in Spanish. And not to mention that glorious voice. I guess it comes with time or experience, or something. I don't know what it was that Selena had, but Christina doesn't have that emotion in her voice to make me feel the beauty of the Spanish.I do love the song Mi Reflejo (Reflection). It's a terrific song in any language. Christina's voice is divine, but once again, I'd much rather hear her sing it in English because the words are powerful and I feel that she sings it with emotion, not just because she has a great voice and can sing Spanish lyrics. Anyway, I'm not bashing Christina. I'm more than happy to give her credit - yes, girl, you can sing, but the whole idea of a Spanish album by her is kind of irksome. It also annoyed me to see all of the credits and linear notes in Spanish. Now we all know Christina didn't write that. She just had someone translate it for her. I just don't understand what the purpose of this album was. To prove that she wants to acknowledge her Spanish roots? So what your father is Ecuadorian? My mother is Panamanian...your point? If she wants to prove that she's not a pop princess, then come out with an album that proves otherwise but not a whole Spanish album, because it seems phony, and show-offy to me. |
