JA Mcorkle's Mia is vampiric erotica with extra bite. The author knows the vampire genre inside out and mines every rich seam to craft a story full of the sexual power of these supernatural predators that fascinate us.

Mia Harrington is a woman in a loveless marriage to a wealthy businessmen, left to her own devices and dreaming of more. When Lucas Bradshaw arrives at a dinner party she senses something unique about him and it isn't long before his secrets are revealed. Following a vicious attack by a duo of sexually sadistic vampires, Mia's world is turned upside down as she is thrust into a world of paranormal gang rivalry, politics and new sensuality.

Set largely over one tumultous night, the pace never wanes. There are are times when characters explain a lot of backstory in dialogue which would have been ripe for immersive flashbacks, but McCorckle's skill lies in the here and now and her descriptions of a host of vampire's sexual proclivities are real and raw. Several scenes are extreme, particularly those involving the story's cruel antagonist Blair, a vampire so used to getting his own way the the word 'No' isn't in his vocabularly. These scenes are immersive, shocking and viscerally written. The more tender scenes are wonderfully erotic and will certainly raise your pulse!

Mia is a believable character and serves as the portal to a wonderful wish-fulfillment fantasy for any fan of the genre. If only Twilight was this damn sexy!

Highly recommended - it's my first experience with vampire erotica, and McCorkle has made me a full fledged fan!

Mia is just what it claims to be, a vampire erotica. Mia is a strong willed protagonist who is easy to like. Lucas is every bit as powerful and sexy as you would want him to be. The uncharacteristic vulnerableness he shows Mia endears him to the reader. There is no lack of steamy sex between them. The bad guy, Blair, is truly evil and this is made abundantly clear by his cruel domination of the women around him. When he was around the book often read like a cautionary tale of sadism and misogyny. I didn't care for this, but that is more of a personal preference than an indictment of the book.

My only real complaints are the frequent tense changes and that Mia and Lucas have an instant, almost visceral reaction to each-other that sets in motion the events of the book. But you never really find out why. Similarly Mia has a fairly drastic change of opinion at the end of the story with no identifiable instigator. Despite this I would still suggest giving it a read.

Mia is a well to do house wife stuck in a marriage of convenience on both parts. She's not UN happy but she's not happy either. She just kind of floats through life with no real passion or purpose except to be the perfect hostess for her husbands many business associates and prospective business associates. Lucas is the leader of the local Vampire clan. All powerful, feared and respected by all in his clan. To him, humans are for food and fun. Nothing more. Which is why his sudden infatuation with his future business partners very human wife is baffling to say the least. When rival Vampires break into Mia's house in search of Lucas and put Mia and her husband through a night of blood and terror, Lucas realizes that this may not be a simple infatuation. I love how strong Mia was with all that she endured and how she finally overcame her fears in order to for once in her life, have something that she wanted for herself. I will be reading the next book.

Generally I am not a big fan of vampire stories, but "Mia" changed my mind about the genre. McCorkle created a smoothe, nearly flawless thriller/love story that kept me turning the pages. Her character build was great and each of the characters popped out in this page turner. I recommend this book to all lovers of the genre.

I went through this story a lot faster than normal. It begins with a pleasant gathering, no evidence that anything unusual is about to happen and then it spills over into violence and erotic vampire action. That was unexpected
But it is a bit more than just some gore fest. I noticed the writer has done a fair bit of research and looked at all that is vampire lore. According to some people who claim to be vampires the whole deal is the exchange of blood and bodily fluids is a heightened experience and that vampirism can be very erotic. the writer seemed to latch on to that but hasnt overplayed it. the scenes are sexual and sometimes violent but if you notice who id doing what and when you can see a study in the different aspects of vampire lore. the rogue vampires and their blood lust and apetites for violence were a nice counterpoint to the other kinds of vampire who blend into society.
great story with some really well played out ideas. i think this one does what a really good story needs to do; it pulls you along all too quickly to the end and then you are left thinking, ok i want more of this
