Just as good as the expensive name brands!, April 5, 2010
This review is from: Miallegro 1090 Coffee Maker 12-cup Automatic Drip
I recently changed colors in my kitchen from red to blue & looked for months for small kitchen electrics in blue. After many tries I chanced upon the Miallegro products and, because they were so inexpensive I decided to give them a try. I purchased 3 products, the stand/hand mixer, the blender & the coffee maker. All three products perform as well or better than the expensive name brands I have used for years...Cuisinart, Kitchen Aid, etc. The mixer can be used as a stand mixer or just pop off the top & use it as a hand mixer. The bowl is a little smaller than other brands, but I have some older mixer bowls that will fit if I need larger. The blender container is much larger than other brands which is nice for making larger batches of drinks & it crushes ice great! It's a little loud, but takes much less time than others I have had, especially if you're using a lot of ice. The coffee maker makes a full 12 cups & has a permanent filter which is so much nicer than using paper filters, and the coffee tastes great. It doesn't have a clock or a programmable feature but I don't need those, so it's not a problem for me.
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchases...by buying 3 at the same time I saved a lot on shipping charges...the total for all three items, including shipping, was under $130! You can't even buy 1 of the big name brands for that. And they're really cute, too, and look great on my kitchen counter!

Stylish, reliable, no-frills coffeemaker, May 15, 2010
This review is from: Miallegro 1090 Coffee Maker 12-cup Automatic Drip
Recently, my Black & Decker coffeemaker was on its last legs, and before buying a replacement I thought I'd do some research so I wouldn't have to buy another one for a long time. I have a Consumer Reports account so the first thing I did was check their coffeemaker ratings/reviews. Unfortunately, I came away more confused than when I arrived! So many brands, models, options, prices, and ratings. I just wanted a basic coffeemaker that would be reliable and make a great cup of coffee. No need for fancy bells and whistles; my only real requirement was an automatic shut-off feature.
Then I decided to look at what actual consumers thought about coffeemakers they owned. I liked what I read about the Miallegro 1090, and after narrowing down my choices to a handful of coffeemakers I ended up deciding to go with it.
This was my first experience with the brand and the company. I was pleased right away with the company--I placed the order on a Saturday, got free standard shipping, and received the order five days later. As luck would have it my B&D coffeemaker died the same day the Miallegro arrived, so I was very happy to see it!
I ran it once with plain water as instructed. If I had it to do over again I'd run a plain water cycle twice--the first pot of coffee had a bit of "new coffeemaker" taste, not bad enough to make it undrinkable, but I'd recommend running two plain water cycles just to be sure.
The coffee itself is great. It's taken a little experimenting to get the coffee-to-water ratio just right, but now that I have I'm very pleased.
One caveat: If you're expecting 12 cups like *I* was expecting 12 cups, you'll be disappointed! The first thing that struck me when I took the carafe out of the box was how SMALL it looked. I knew it couldn't possibly hold as much as my 12 cup B&D, and it doesn't. Turns out that 12 cups in the Miallegro is equivalent to 10 cups in the Black & Decker.
I absolutely LOVE that the carafe does not drip and/or spill all over the place. I can pour quickly and even a bit off center without spilling a drop.
I also appreciate the permanent filter that came with the unit. I always use permanent filters [no sense wasting paper!], so I would have bought one anyway but they saved me the bother.
All in all I'm very pleased with this coffeemaker and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a no-frills machine. It looks great and it makes a great pot of coffee!

Not good at all, May 29, 2010
This review is from: Miallegro 1090 Coffee Maker 12-cup Automatic Drip
The coffee maker arrived yesterday, and I followed the directions for running a full carafe through it, water only. That was fine. Then I made myself a mug of coffee. So far so good.
HOWEVER: Today I went to make a full pot and when I poured the water in, all the water leaked out the bottom. Tried again. Same result.
I'm sending it back and buying a Cuisinart.
