Book Description

October 5, 2005
Miami Inverted details the history of skateboarding in South Florida as seen through the daredevil eyes of Robbie Weir. From learning tricks, such as the layback air, frontside air and the ollie, to making friends with some of the premier Florida skaters, including Alan "Ollie" Gelfand, Monty Nolder and Dan Murray, Weir was in the middle of a new sport that would become one of the main pastimes for kids throughout the world. The book follows him through training, competitions, movie stunts and fashion shoots. Within the pages of this book, readers witness the rise of the sport as well as the way it creates community and offers kids another option to the dangers of the streets.A captivating retrospective filled with some never before seen photos and anecdotes, Miami Inverted details how skateboarding changed the face of suburbia and helped launch one kid from the Everglades to prominence. Simply put, its a skateboard story in a feel good book. With many twists and exhausting turns, it is well worth the ride.

About the Author

Known as "The Burger King Kid" due to an infamous commercial he shot in his teenage years for the burger giant, Weir offers his take on the skating scene of Florida during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. While Tony Alva, Jay Adams and Stacy Peralta were freestyling their way into Southern California infamy, Weir and his buddies were discovering their new found talent on urethane wheels. As a wide-eyed middle class kid who enjoyed "umbrella jumping" from the roof of his parents home near the Everglades, Weir had an epiphany one sunny day while watching his new neighbor, Robert Rodrigues, performing his amazing skateboard skills. This began a new friendship which would unlock a passion inside of Weir that would change his life forever. Weir has traveled on his skateboard everywhere. A gifted athlete from early on, he picked up the board at age 11 and never looked back. After commercials, musics videos and this book, he still calls Miami Beach, Florida his home.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for skaters and non skaters alike of all ages who want to learn about the history of the sport, November 11, 2005
This review is from: Miami Inverted: A Skateboarder's Retrospective (Paperback)
As someone who grew up skateboarding "back in the day" in Florida, and who is now back at it again as a middle aged father, it was great to read the history of someone who came up through the ranks as a young skater and is still killing it today. No matter whether you are an East or West Coast skater, if you want to enjoy a true story from a guy who has seen it all this is a must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Three thmbs up for Miami Inverted, May 28, 2006

Great Read!!
Robbie has always been a class act. Through the book you get a little insight on the perseverance and go for it attitude one can only learn in a "sport" like Skateboarding.
Hopefully Robbie is working on a second book that goes in more detail on his motion picture stunt work, and the inside scoop on the modeling industry he has worked with in the past.
