Wow definite page turner. Fran and Sheed really did there thing. Great read. The author did a great job the twist and turns was unexpected. :-)

This book was a page-turner; I read it in a couple of days. Without giving anything away, I'll just say that it will be worth every penney... Get it!!!

I met the author at an Atlanta Jazz/Comedy spot. She's a very nice person and a budding young writer! I really enjoyed the book because it wasn't predictable. I'd love to see Lisa-Raye McCoy in the leading role when the movie is made!

Miami Reign, really sizzles with non-stop action and advantage! Tammy Merkison, author splendidly created Miami Reign, piercing deep into the underworld of drugs, violence, good/bad guys, and victims.

James Jackson, aka Blue, is a handsome intelligent, successful lawyer with an established career and wealth, is shadowed by a past he very much wants to stay away from. Fran, breathtakingly gorgeous victimized and abused as a young girl, runs away from home, straight into the hands of Quartz, a well known drug king pin in Miami. Fran gains Quartz's respect and trust after revealing to him that there was much more to her than just her beauty and wits.

Willy and Marie James's beloved family gets caught-up in the ferocious life of drug addiction and crime. After receiving a disturbing call that could alter his life forever, Blue decides to steps out on faith and return to the world he left behind. The heat is on when Blue meets Fran, fire and desires consumes them.

Suddenly, without prediction or expectation, James learns everything about drugs from Fran. Blue's drug organization grows, he becames large, in charge, with more wealth and drama than he ever envision and is in love with Fran who shares his feelings (or does she).

With the FBI and DEA now hot on his trail, Blue finds himself in a fight for freedom, survival, taking more risks, facing heartache and fear he never dreamed possible.

Wonderful Story - Well done!

I read this book in three days which means that it is an excellant book. The story line, fast pace and constant drama kept me on the edge of my seat. The story was so good I hated for it to end. I finished it at the doctor's office and left it by mistake. I was almost home when I realized it was gone and turned around to go back and get it. Needless to say someone grabbed it. Darn it. I can't wait to read the sequel to the story.

James "Blue" Jackson is a successful lawyer who has left his past in Miami. He has vowed to never be a part of the drug game that took his mother and father from him, but he gets a call that forces him to choose between the life he knows and the family he left behind. Blue's decision sets the reader up for a ride through the streets of Miami.

Described as realistic fiction, MIAMI REIGN by Tammy Merkison details Blue's life after he returns to Miami to save his brother's life. Although Blue only plans to be in town for a short period of time Quartz, the current drug lord, has other plans in mind. After a drug deal goes bad for Blue and the death of Quartz, Blue gets caught up in the drug life and takes over as Miami's top drug lord. He also falls in love with Fran, a woman who once served as Quartz's protection. With Fran's street smarts and Blue's knowledge of the law they begin to build an empire together, but forces from both inside and out are working hard to bring them down. In the end Blue will learn a lesson in loyalty and also, just how much family really means to him.

Filled with a mixture of drama and action, MIAMI REIGN is a tale of the ups and downs of the drug life. Merkison uses vivid detail to describe the scenes 'which increases the readers imagination and makes the novel felt more like a movie. The book will keep your interest because it is fast-paced and filled with unexpected moments. In the end you'll be left to wonder...how much is having power really worth?

I rarely read urban lit style books and I am happy I have read this offering.Author Tammy Merkison's debut novel is a breathe of fresh air. The book was fast pace and the characters were very interesting. The action thuogh violent but not to the point of over exageration. You felt the plight of the main character James "Blue" Jackson with his delimma. Do you comeback and save family or ignore it and continue with your life. The romance between Blue and Fran was strange in the way it happened and heart felt. The ending was fitting and I cannot wait for the sequel of this novel. That is a hint to Ms. Merkison. With only a few typos that does not take from the story, I strongly recommend this book for your library. We hope to hear more from the author Tammy Merkison. Congrats on "Miami Reign"

I met the author at the Queens Book Fair 2006 with another author. She was promoting both books at a great price..........
Well, the book kept my attention and I know that there will be a sequel. The characters were so vivid and the contents were not too trashy as seen in most of the urban books today.
Trying to keep the family together with corruption of the those in higher authority was displayed of wanting more and more.
You will be riding at a high speed when you read this book and will be requesting a sequel............

Miami Reign was exciting from beginning to end. I thought the characters were believable and the story fast-paced and unpredictable, with a surprising ending. I am looking forward to the sequel.

Brand new author Tammy Merkison has joined the plethora of books written in sharp parallel to the urbane mindset catering to street jargon and the life that perpetuate it. With MIAMI REIGN, she churns out a a tale illustrating the pangs and problems of a dysfunctional family, and how drugs, derelicts and disfavor can define a drama personified. This crime thriller brings together a cast not dissimilar to other stories depicting life dealing with drugs reminiscent of Miami's notorious reputation as one of several drug havens during its heyday in the 80's.

The story line, somewhat predictable, manages to garner enough interest to stimulate the reader to ponder what happens next when the social dynamics of street survival meets tangible odds in expecting rays of hope. Timely and untimely deaths, amid revenge, blackmail, betrayal, and the vernacular that is drivel to this story, gives it color and substance based on the characters. This is the story of the rise and fall of the notorious James `Blue' Jackson, his dysfunctional family, the people aiding and abetting a life dependent on a decadent society full of angst and retaliatory mettle, and the consequences thereof. The genesis shows Blue's father going awry selling bad drugs and pays for it with his life. Paramount to the story is elder brother Willy; the devious and intriguing Francis Roe who becomes a love interest to Blue; an Under boss, Mr. Wonderful; the conniving Moses `Quarts' Williams, and a host of other lesser known but cogs in the wheel that turns turbulent against the backdrop of blue skies and mayhem. What gives this book a better backdrop is the colors used to allow contrast to bolster the hue and cry.

Tammy Merkison provides a vivid look at dealings and death perilously amid an alluring and profitable façade in paradise. The book is fast-paced, full of dramatic interlude that will be must reads for those clamoring the current street lit galvanizing our bookshelves of late. Although the book is entertaining, I would have preferred a much more stabilized back story, an innate prologue to set up the characterization more, and better mechanics to define syntax and sentence structure to disguise the choppiness of certain verbal interchanges. With this aside, it takes nothing away from the author's storytelling prowess working specifics that substantiates this type of story. I feel that this author will only get better once the author matures and marinates with time. I rated this book 3.5 stars out of 5.
